I don’t care for Donald Rumsfeld and his arrogant, cavalier attitude toward the Iraq war, but I think Joy Behar’s comments were way out of line.  But there is a difference between her calling Rumsfeld another Hitler and Trent Lott disparaging the Civil Rights movement.  Joy Behar is a TV personality. If you don’t like her comments, don’t watch the show or write to the station and complain.  I’ve seen The View and really can’t understand why it has lasted more than one season.  It’s just part of the morning television wasteland, I guess.  Trent Lott is (or was) an elected official.  At the time he made his comment, and correct me if I’m wrong, he was Senate majority leader and in the position to make and influence government policy.

More tantalizing are Bush’s links to the Consolidated Silesian Steel Company (CSSC), based in mineral rich Silesia on the German-Polish border.  During the war, the company made use of Nazi slave labor from the concentration camps, including Auschwitz. Prescott Bush’s business dealings led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz.

The evidence has also prompted one former U.S. Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator’s action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.  A report issued by the U.S. Office of Alien Property Custodian in 1942 stated of the companies that “since 1939, these (steel and mining) properties have been in possession of and have been operated by the German government and have undoubtedly been of considerable assistance to that country’s war effort”.

Deregulation began WAY before Ronald Reagan.  Nixon (with the help of an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress deregulated Natural gas, gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oil. Carter deregulated the aireline and communication indrustry He was also backed by the congressional D’s.

It is not helpful IMHO to blame one party or the other.  Capitalism unbridled and in bed with both parties is the cause of much of middle class decline.  The buy the government which suits them best, and the rest of us be damned.
