Greenwald and Maher

Documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald speaks to Bill Maher about his latest movie, “Iraq for Sale,” which peels back the layers of the war profiteer industry in Iraq. Stunner: Private contractors are charging the U.S. Army $45 for a six-pack of Coke.

Largest Minority:

In this clip, Maher interviews filmmaker Robert Greenwald to talk about his latest movie, “Iraq for Sale,” which focuses on the hidden capitalist interests of those who are profiting from the war. Greenwald reveals that our tax dollars are going into the pockets of corporations rather than toward the reconstruction effort or the military. We all know the Iraq war was about money, but the actual level of corruption is mind-blowing. We spend over $275 million per day fighting in Iraq, and for what exactly? The only people who have benefited are the corporations.

HOW CAN I BECOME A SUPPLIER TO THE PENTAGON? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, IS IT MANDATORY THAT I HAVE A PRODUCT?  I WOULD LOVE TO GET RICH QUICK. I THINK I’LL ASK JEEVES.

There’s been a lot said about the $200 hammers and $600 toilet seats from the 80’s, and it’s likely a lot of those costs were actually black projects that were funded out of the other $180 above what the hammers really cost; the reasons for the secret and dirty budgeting were twofold: firstly supposedly by funding that way projects could be maintained in secrecy, and secondly there would be no direct congressional oversight, because the projects were not directly funded by congress.

However dirty and inappropriate that was, it sure looks like these days it’s just brute profit that’s the game, rather than any dubious black ops program.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the Great American Military Complex, this really isn’t anything new. How different is it from those reports which came out in the 80’s about military spending at the Pentagon—such as spending a couple of hundred dollars each on hammers which you could probably get for one-tenth of the price down at the local hardware store?

A thorough investigation is way pat due about
how contractors are bilking the taxpayers.
There has been a lot of talk, but no action.
Twenty thousand Dollar Refrigerators, and a
host of other things. There is suppose to be
laws. Why aren’t they enforced?
