Honestly, that anyone is surprised by this turn of events is a mystery to me. Pride cometh before the fall, or something like that.

What never ceases to amaze me is the large number of people who get caught up in following these types of people. I had never heard of Jim and Tammy Baker until their names hit the news for fraud several years back. However, the first time I saw them in the news and heard them speak, I am thinking to myself, why in the world would people look to them for spiritual guidance? I had heard of Haggard because I had listened to a prior news feature about Evangelicals and their support of Bush, and in particular, his support. My first impression of Haggard was that he was very wired and way over the edge. People would be so much better served to look within themselves and try and find answers, rather than looking to others. The Haggards of the world cannot solve their own problems least of all help anyone with theirs. Sit quietly, and listen to your own voice within.

Report thisHipocrisy is a personal, moral/character flaw, not a religious one. Every country has its own social and political problems and, therefore, could be called, by your definition, “screwed up.”
Christianity teaches, “Let he who is without fault cast the first stone.” Islam may have some equivalent. I’m atheist, but I still think, morally speaking, that idea makes good, universal sense.
I think all us Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Taoists, atheists, etc. should get together, put aside those identities long enough to figure out how we can live in peace, respectful of all our divergent views on religion and put the sanctity of families and the earth above our man-made views based on centuries-old myths. There is a group of women in Cambridge, MA doing just that, and I think that may be the key to preserving humanity. I bet they’d welcome you into the discussions.

No surprises here! Behind every anti-gay hate monger is typically a closeted, self-hating, holier-than-thou nut case. Why else would they be so obsessed with the sex life of other consenting adults?

WOW! If this is how rotten the creame of the crop is, what would the rest of the crop be like?!
The evil hypocrite president of the 30-million member National Association of Evangelicals, who talks every Monday to evil Bush, who is the so-called elected president of the 300 million Americans; no wonder that America is screwed up!
And for the first time, I fully understand why the Qur’an assigns the hypocrites to the lowest rung of hellfire! I am glad that Islam, the religion most hated and attacked by those hypocrites, is vindicated by a Merciful God through exposing his enemies!

I think the reason these Christians (like Rev. Haggard) are so over the top nuts is because they’re so inner compromised, and walking boat loads of cognitive dissonance. Not to mention corrupted by their new found power. I also saw the film ‘Jesus Camp’ and I’m sure 98+% of those kids will get over it and write it all off as a bad dream from their stupid parents in the long run…..the other 2% will be mental basket cases like Haggard.

Haggard appeared in the Richard Dawkins documentary ‘The Root of all Evil’ - where he gives a chilling performance. The guy obviously has problems.
