Evangelist: I Got Massage and Meth From Male Prostitute

Posted on Nov 3, 2006
Ted Haggard

Disgraced preacher Ted Haggard said he received a massage and bought drugs from a gay male prostitute—but denied having sex with the escort or using the drugs.
Seriously, he can’t think we’re that stupid….

Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.

Haggard resigned Thursday as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and stepped down as leader of his Colorado megachurch while the two groups investigate the allegations.

Talking to reporters outside his house Friday, Haggard denied the sex allegations but said that he did buy meth from the man because he was curious.

Dont fret - we will all stand before the righteous Lord God and give an account of our actions. The religious hypocrites will not be smirking then. (they always were God’s primary opposition! dont let Ted faze you!) I just take account of the weakness of man, and the sin tendency, and privately dedicate myself once again to moral holiness and the purifying Spirit of Christ. It’s between YOU and GOD. no one else truly knows. Self deception is the worst form of delusion. Pray God we see straight and know truth, and live well. Blood of Jesus cleanse us.

First, it was “I didn’t do anything”.  Then, it was “OK, yes…I admit that I DID buy drugs but I never used them and I didn’t have any sexual contact with him”. Now, it’s “OK, yes…I admit that I DID buy drugs but I never used them, and I admit that I DID get a massage but I did not have sex with him”  Is it any wonder that some people are having trouble believing him, considering the fact that he keeps changing his story and that he confesses to a little more each time?

One is inclined to wonder what tomorrow’s “Okay, yes” will be…

Now the only thing funnier than this would be Haggard testing positive for HIV and his wife too.

This keeps my dream alive of Cheney caught with a twelve year olds cock in his mounth, and one of the Bush twin claiming Daddy fucked her….now that would make my life complete.

Let’s blame Satan - the imperfect god of the bible, the very one Haggard worships, yes thats right there is only one god and it is Satan, the devil, we now have proof.

I am surprised that God could send Jesus the man without sin, yet any of todays profits (intentional) seem to fail the sinless test.  I like that they are not examples to follow but rather hypocrites to pity.

God is an ass.
Christ is an ass.
Mohamed is an ass.
I have one message for Haggard and all the other faithfull sheep - fuck you and your god.

This makes Clinton look like a saint.

at the current rapid rate of disclosure of salacious scandal it shouldn’t take but a few weeks before every alcohol recovery facility in the country will be jammed to the rafters and every clergyman ever ordained will have been fingered (so to speak) as the sexual abuser and proximate cause of the abused’s habits of dissipation. what ominous sea change portends? i predict the slews of sotted sodomites exposed in scandal will attempt to dodge their stultifying oppropbrium by taking refuge in public life. the houses of the capitol will be jammed to the rafters with sotted sodomites- or, well….

As of today, Sunday, with the church “investigation” concluded, it is surely impressive how he could’ve looked into the eyes of the interviewer last week and say he never did the drugs and never had the sex.  The mark of a skilled, calm liar.

From a purely spiritual evaluation viewpoint, I’d say it’s very likely that Rev. Ted Haggard was removed from power by God himself because he promoted a false religion of right wing politics and a personality cult that enriched himself, not spiritually enriching the members of his New Life Church. The removal of Rev. Ted is just like the removal of so many other Protestant failures and Roman Catholic Priests for wrongdoing as well. When someone is such a flawed leader, they are of no use to God and are exposed as frauds and removed by God. This is a spiritual law. Bad leaders eventually walk outside of grace and are exposed as false spiritual leaders.

When a church leader is heavily spiritually flawed, their walk with God is also very flawed, and there is no real ear that really hears the voice of God. Instead, the church leader begins to merely promote their own opinions, or simply seek their own financial enrichment. None of this serves the legitimate needs of God for earthly leaders to promote legitimate faith.

This is why some churches promote politics or unscriptural messages. The church leadership is so flawed and not really walking with God. From cover to cover there is not one single word in the Bible that encourages Christians to promote a right wing government here on earth. Quite the opposite, the message of the Bible is the future coming kingdom of God. That is literally the “Good News”.

Just like the Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Earl Paulk and many other church scandals, this serves as another serious wake-up call that everything that chutch followers have learned about God they have learned from spiritually flawed leaders that have a very defective walk with God. If some of these followers would bother to read their Bible once in awhile, they would have noticed a wide difference between Scripture and the message of these flawed church leaders.

Probably this election will also remove many political leaders from power who have also falsely used religion for their gains. There is a great spiritual shaking at hand, where many spiritual frauds will have their power reduced very soon I personally feel.

Ted also wrote a stirring Christian pamphelet titled “No More Lonely Nights.” Well, if anyone would know. . .

Anyone getting a deja vu vibe from this sad little shock-o-rama may recall the fate of the late and little lamented Billy James Hargis, founder of the American Christian College and a key figure in the rise of the religious right.

According to Time Magazine (February 16, 1976):

“‘After years of shock and sorrow over the decline of morals and decency in our country [wrote Hargis], I thought I had become shockproof . . . Can you believe it: complete color films of sexual acts between women and men, including homosexual acts, using your children. Unless you and I act today . . . our children and our children’s children will be exposed to perversion so sinister that good will become evil and evil will become good.’”

“That fund-raising appeal, mailed out last month from Tulsa’s Crusade for Christian Morality, bears the unmistakable stamp of its author, the Rev. Billy James Hargis.”

“An ultra-right Fundamentalist, Hargis, 50, has long denounced sexual sin and spoken out as a defender of traditional virtues in an increasingly lax society. In 1968, his organization published the bestseller (250,000 copies) ‘Is the School House the Proper Place to Teach Raw Sex?’”

“Today, however, Hargis stands accused by former colleagues of committing some of the very sins he has railed against. TIME Correspondent Anne Constable and Reporters Richard Walker and Tom Carter have learned that five students—four of them men—at his American Christian College in Tulsa have come forward and said that President Hargis has had sexual relations with them. Asked about the charges, Hargis declined to give any specific reply. Through a lawyer, he stated: ‘I have made more than my share of mistakes. I’m not proud of them. Even the Apostle Paul said, ‘Christ died to save sinners, of whom I am chief.’ Long ago, I made my peace with God, and my ministry continues.’”

“That ministry centers on the Christian Crusade, which was founded by Hargis in 1950 to promote far-right political and religious causes. . . . Hargis founded American Christian College to teach ‘antiCommunist patriotic Americanism.’”

“It was at the college that Hargis’ sexual troubles surfaced in October 1974, when the first of the five students confessed to then Vice President David Noebel. Noebel’s account: Not long before, Hargis had conducted a wedding for the student; on the honeymoon, the groom and his bride discovered that both of them had slept with Hargis. Later, Noebel says, three more male students told him of having had sexual relations with Hargis over a period of three years. They said the trysts had taken place in Hargis’ office, at his farm in the Ozarks, even during his tours with the college choir, the ‘All-American Kids.’ Noebel was told that Hargis justified his homosexual acts by citing the Old Testament friendship between David and Jonathan and threatened to blacklist the youths for life if they talked.”

David and Jonathan—-there’s your get-out-of-ja9l-free card, Ted. Enjoy!

First a disclosure, I live in Muncie, the area where Rev. Ted went to high school. Over the past decades our designation as “Middletown USA” has been challenged many times. It is hard to not be slightly proud of a local boy who made it so good - counseling Tony Blair and Ariel Sharon by some accounts and in fact the chief decider of this country.

Vistors to the area here have frequently criticized the backwoods ignorant religious crackpots you sometimes see in the area. In that same period this group of idiots have risen to take over the world. So I would thank you to not criticize Indiana any longer.

Hats off to Rev Ted, I guess we all have our contradicions but yours are profound. You campaign against the occultists and drug users during the day and consort with them at night.

I hope you got a good deal on your script treatment for the “Making of Reverend Ted” miniseries on cable.

Aw, what a nice guy,

“Drugs and alcohol conspired” ?? “The devil took advantage”??

Are you serious?  I thought there was an age limit or at least a min. IQ to be on this site.  If an inanimate object can “conspire” we truly are living in a fairy tale world.  Wait, let me go get my old lucky rabbits foot from when I was 10 years old, it might bring me good luck after all!

So why then did the republicans (the supposedly god fearing party) not say, “Monica Lewinski her pretty dress and a fine cigar conspired to provoke a moment of weakness in Bill Clinton”? All he needs is some counseling and forgiveness and all will be well!!!!

This is what I like about religion, there is always a lame ass excuse backed up by a bunch of arcane vague scriptures.  Christians use god and the bible like politicians use alcohol to explain any and all of their problems (Foley)

What says god did not want this to happen?  If god really is the creator, he controls everything, then you must give the credit to him, not the devil.  That would mean the devil is more powerful???

It is funny how credit is handed out to either the devil or God depending on the situation.  For example, if a man looses his job he claims the devil is at work in his life, but another guy who finally gets the vacated job after months of being unemployed claims god is at work in his life.  Same act two descriptions.  It can not be both, unless God and Satan have high level cabinet meetings every Sunday morning to decide who get’s what for the coming week.

We are an odd species.  Through time, science, logic, common sense and physical discovery humans have had to change and re-think many many things that over the last 2,000-4,000 years were considered facts: (remember, it was once fact that the earth was flat, the sun revolved around earth, the pope was infallible, Kings were devine, real witches lived among us, God lived in the clouds and if you dug real deep into the dirt you would find the fiery pits of hell.)

But, strangely enough, without any proof and 100% faith, people still cling to religion as Fact.  A book written in a time when the majority could not read, and the church ran the world like an evil dictator, (any questions and you were a heretic!)  Ask any psychologist who deals with teenagers, the need to “belong”, “belong” to anything is the core of the human experience.

Of course we believe him!  All of this is just the devil’s work.  The devil will tempt man and make him do things that will make him turn from God and the Kingdom of Heaven.  All he needs to do is repent and ask forgiveness and he will be as pure as the driven snow.

Then again, this could just be God’s way of showing the rest of the world what a bunch of hypocritical self-important profit-driven false prophets there actually are in the world.

Who knows?

Yes, people like Haggard know that enough of us are so stupid that he can get by with his religious drival as long as he says “its God’s will”. That crap has been used for thousands of years and will be used as long as it works. Others of his ilk like Bush use our stupidity to get over with BS like “if we don’t fight them in Iraq, we’ll have to fight them in the streets of america”. Truthdig suggests that perhaps WE’RE (Truthdig participants) not THAT STUPID (as to believe Haggard), and perhaps many of us are not, BUT…

the lion’s share of the 30 MILLION who “followed” his leadership were… and likely STILL ARE. They’ve been suckered into believing the bullshit Haggard and Falwell and Robertson and the zillion other self-important zealots out there shovel into their victims’ brainwashed minds.

Millions of years ago, it is reported, Homo_______ (you fill in the blank) came down from swinging in the trees to hunt and gather standing on his/her “hind” feet. I wonder how many centuries will have to pass before “mankind” will find a way to have his/her MIND catch on that MENTALLY STANDING ON YOUR OWN FEET IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT!

Religion is a CRUTCH - an OPIATE if you wish - for those who simply can’t handle the notion that, like all the other living things, HUMANS ARE ON THEIR OWN IN THIS UNIVERSE.

Yes, Truthdig, Haggard and his followers are all THAT STUPID! And in Haggard’s case, a liar and hypocrite and likely a LOUSY LAY - gay or straight!

WOW! This one is even bigger than any of the so many continuous scandals plaguing the neocons and their so-called conservative base. Imagine!! The President of the 30-million member of the National Association of Evangelicals living a perverted sexual life and dealing drugs, while preaching morality and anti-homosexual rhetoric from the pulpit! I am glad that the Merciful God had finally caught up with those hypocrites! If this is the creame of the crop, what would be the level of rotteness among the rest of the crop?!

Those merchants of hate and bigotry against other religions, especially against Islam, along with the merchants of death ruling from Washington D.C. are the most evil, worst disgrace and most dangerous security threat to America and the world than anything imagined. Those types I am sure are hated by a just God, and that’s why He had to expose them and the evil they do!

Jesus Christ, what a bore: another Good-Christian cocksucker outed. Don’t these covert polesmokers ever learn? Brace yourself for another tearful plea for Sympathy and Forgiveness with stand-by-your-man wifey at the side, followed by lefty editorials on The Price of the Closet and rightie editorials on The Pink Menace that threatens to claim the weaker sheep within the Tender Shepherd’s fold.

Really, the twice-born need to return to their roots, the man-on-man encounters of our Savior recorded in “The Secret Gospel of Mark” (as reported by Clement of Alexandria in response to a question from one Theodore):

“And they come into Bethany. And a certain woman whose brother had died was there. And, coming, she prostrated herself before Jesus and says to him, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me.’ But the disciples rebuked her.”

“And Jesus being angered, went off with her into the garden where the tomb was, and straightaway a great cry was heard from the tomb. And going near Jesus rolled away the stone from the door of the tomb.”

“And straightaway going in where the youth was, he stretched forth his hand and raised him, seizing his hand.”

“But the youth, looking upon him, loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him. And going out of the tomb they came into the house of the youth, for he was rich.”

“And after six days Jesus told him what to do and in the evening the youth comes to him, wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, for Jesus taught him the mystery of the Kingdom of God. And thence, arising, he returned to the other side of the Jordan.”

Clement adds:

“After these words follows the text, ‘And James and John come to him,’ and all that section. But ‘naked man with naked man,’ and the other things about which you [Theodore] wrote, are not found.’”

Who cares whether this passage was “found” in the original version or not? Canonical vs. non-canonical scripture deals with the same fairy tale, so why not have fun with it? Loincloth. . .naked. um-um, it doesn’t get any hotter than this.  The only question is: What Would Jesus Do…in the sack? Who knows, but the idea of the Son of God as a bottom has a certain perverse appeal.
