Stephanie Miller and the sock

Progressive radio show host Stephanie Miller made an on-air call to a man (“Sock”) who wrote her an obscene letter wishing for her death. Great radio. (Click on “Stephanie called him.”)

Crooks and Liars:

For those of you that didn’t understand the reference Keith Olbermann made to Stephanie Miller in his Special Comment yesterday, After Stephanie Miller’s appearance on H&C, she received an incredibly ugly letter from a Fox News viewer who called himself “Sock.”  Bradblog has full, unedited letter in all its hate-filled glory.

The idiot, er…the Fox fan was dumb enough to give Stephanie his phone number.  So of course, Stephanie called him.

it was not great radio. it was a railing, delusional, hateful old man. it was the exhibition of a cretin. this addled fool cannot not be shamed though he can be reached via his listing in the centerville, ohio white pages under the name florian a sokolowski.
he should be taken seriously and exposed for the miscreant he is.

We know this guy in Sarasota, FL. He has sent virtually identical letters to anyone daring to write a progressive thought to the local paper. The police has “spoken” with him, and, if memory serves, he was even visited by the Secret Service after he sent a letter to Bill Clinton. The police feel he has been coached as to the line he cannot cross in his letters, however his intent is clearly to threaten and intimidate those who express liberal opinions in order to squelch their speech. I wrote up an official complaint on him after receiving numerous letters much like Stephanie’s. I figure it is good to have a paper trail on pervs like this so eventually they can build a case and put him away.  Probably a civil rights case would be the best bet.

On the other hand, he is a pathetic old fart who sits around writing these absurd rants most of the day. Heck of a way to spend your retirement.

I don’t understand why in so many of these clips American liberals listen to being called ‘haters of America’ without retort. It is clear America still holds its fundamental values to be that of democracy and freedom - freedom of speech and opportunity. Ironically, it is clear now to many Americans, and to those around the world, that the US is now a symbol of the exact opposite. As an Australian my only hope is that the liberal majority in America can recognise the real importance of bringing America at least a little closer to these ideals, if not for domestic reasons then out of respect for the global community, who unfortunately too often has to pay the price of self-serving American foreign politics. The Republics may be right that at the moments liberals are ‘haters of America,’ but only because they should rightly despise the reality of what America has become. The only choice is to alter this reality, so it is more closely aligned with what America was supposed to be.
