Colbert Rips American TribalismPosted on Sep 20, 2006
Stephen Colbert offered this riff on racial tribalism in America, after learning that whites tend to live amongst other whites. Heres a taste: ғIm colorblind. I donҒt see race, folks, and I always thought my gated community was incredibly diverse. But, uh, today I asked around and it turns out that everyone at last weeks ґsmooth jazz and mayonnaise block party was in fact white.Ҕ Watch it: Advertisement CommentsAre you a Truthdig member yet? America is a country founded on the subordinardination of our fellow human beings. When it all boils down, issues of race(ethnicity) were created to further divide the population for the purpose of regulating the social hierarchy. We are one human race. Whomever is so blind as to accept this false division succeeds only in perpetuating this atrocious reality. How much could this tiresome situation be remedied through the replacement of the term racist with ethnicist? That will be the day when the ignorance of prejudice will be held at face value. Imagine…“Oh, I am ethnist against people of African and Oriental descent.” What a joke it would be to be an ethnist. Racism by correct scientific defenition would be a dislike of other species; for instance, the fearful cat could be racist against dogs. Does a “racist” hate the human race? Maybe.

Excuse me? No More racism? You can’t possibly be serious.
So long as there are people that are different from us, so long as there is something to divide us, it will.
Hell look at some of the heated discussions that occur between Baseball fans, fans of one video game console over another, potayto potawto. And you have the cajones to still and try and hold on to that idiotic 90s liberal belief that humanity could end racism.
Please.
There will always be racism, as a diehard self proclaimed liberal i say that there will always be racism and that all we can do is to lessen it, destroy it, eliminate and ameliorate the rifts it has driven in american society but to end it? It cannot and will not be done.
And so with that I do too have a dream. I have a dream that one day, that black people, white people, and people of all races will join together in the spirit of brotherhood… and dissolve into partisan rancor over which Final Fantasy was truly the best one.
For my part, i say FF6.

Colbert always hits the mark with his satirical observations presented as right wing world view.
No laugh track here. His audience knows where he’s coming from.

For crying out loud, the guy’s shtick is mocking right-wing talk show hosts, and he’s a master at it. The jab is really at the Hannities, OReillies, and the Rush Windbags. Its very funny because its true.

This is rather distasteful. I almost think that maybe Steven was testing his audience, or seeing how racist he could go before he wouldn’t get a laugh. There were some mighty inflammatory things in there, and it almost sounded sub-par for the amount of laughter, I could practically hear the recorded laughing edging up over the real laughing.

I’m sadden by the fact that the issue of race is mearly a vehicle for those who wish to create only laughs. This is a serious issue, unfortunately an issue that has gotten worse over the years.
Report thisWhen I was a child, around 9 years old (I’m 50 now) I honestly believed that one day there would be no racism in America by the time I reach my current age, or even sooner. After all these years, though, it’s still here and getting worse. Sad, very sad.
American is not only leaderless (please, let’s not regard Bush as a leader), but has lost, if it ever had, its moral compass.
Goodbye America.
