9/11 Video TributePosted on Sep 10, 2006
To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, we have assembled a collection of the most memorable and compelling footage related to that day—some of it iconic and unforgettable, like the images of the planes crashing into the towers, some of it more below the radar, like Jon Stewart’s first show after the attacks. They run in a generally chronological order. If you have other videos that you think should make the list, post them in the comments box and well add them. (Warning: Many of these videos are extremely graphic and disturbing. And although some may find this presentation unnecessarily morbid, we present it because we had forgotten how viscerally powerful these images are. This is due to the fact that not long after the attacks, most television networks and stations decided en masse not to continue airing the images, as viewers apparently found them too disturbing. Well, five years later, we feel it’s appropriate and, yes, necessary to remind our people of the barbarity of those who attacked us on Sept. 11. ) CNN footage (culled from the work of an amateur photographer) of American Airlines Flight 11 crashing into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. Also includes professional footage of United Airlines Flight 175 crashing into the South Tower at 9:02 a.m. Advertisement Amateur footage, from close up, of UA 175 crashing into the South Tower. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. The entire 911 (not 9/11) phone call made by Kevin Cosgrove, a 45-year-old vice president of Aon Corporation, headquartered on the 105th floor of No. 2 WTC. Heartbreaking. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. People leap from the Twin Towers to their deaths. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Defense Department footage of American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. (The camera filmed a new frame only about once a second, so there exists only one frame of AA 77 in flight before it crashes.) If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Amateur footage of the South Tower collapsing at 9:59 a.m. (contains heart-wrenching screams of pedestrians gathered around the photographer).
Professional footage of the North Tower collapsing at 10:28 a.m. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Professional footage of No. 7 WTC collapsing at 5:20 p.m. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Bushs Response to 9/11 - amateur but expertly assembled movie that juxtaposes the New York City-based events of 9/11 with Bushs Florida-based response. Devastating.
If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Bushs “bullhorn moment” standing atop the rubble of the WTC. Some call it his finest moment - never mind the fact that it happened on Sept. 14th - three days after the attacks. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. David Lettermans first show after the attacks, widely praised by critics as setting the tone for the days to follow. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Dan Rather cries twice during the interview segment of the same Letterman show. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. Jon Stewart delivers a heartfelt - and at times funny - monologue in his first show after the attacks. Pitch-perfect. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. For a more crass response, listen to the Howard Stern show while the attacks are actually happening. If you have trouble loading the above video, watch it here. The trailer for the soon-to-be-released movie 9/11: Press for the Truth - about the efforts of the Jersey Girls, women who lost husbands in the World Trade Center attacks, and who almost single-handedly goaded Republican lawmakers into holding hearings into the attacks. For the conspiracy theorists among you, heres the full version of Loose Change - the mother of all “The U.S. government was responsible for 9/11” videos.

Thanks for sharing these clips. It was hard to watch. I have a quesion though.. I watched the clip “Defense Department footage of American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m.” about 20 times in a row.. How come never see a plane? Weirder yet, I stopped it several times right before impact. Why is there that little curly-cue of a smoke trail following it? Why would an airliner do that? I have been to the airport and flown a lot of times and have never seen anything like that before. Frankly, it really does look more like the trail of a missile. Maybe I have been watching too many movies..

I do not know what really happened. I am convinced that the towers fell due to a controlled demolition. Anyone with a brain can see that. But I did sit and watch a plane hit the tower. It is clear as day. I do not beleive that a magician such as David Copperfield made millons of people watching on TV and thousands of eye witnesses including Fire Fighter and police “Trained Pro” see a plane hit the tower by illusion. I do not know how the plane penetrated the tower so deep. Maybe the planes were special built, maybe these planes were not flimsy. I do not know. I do know that at least 1 plane hit the South Tower. No doubt in my mind. Also I am just as certain that the buildings fell due to a controlled Demolition. So did WTC 7. As far as flight 93. I believe that the passangers tried to take over the plane. I beleive their were calls from air phones, I have used those myself and they are very clear and you can make a quick call with them. I do not beleive that there were cell phon e calls. I ave been on many planes. My cell loses signal right after takeoff until we are very near the ground. Maybe the plane was flying low enough for a cell call but I doubt it.
I beleive that 93 was shot down and I beleive that the efforts of the passengers were futile because once they got control of the plane it had to be shot down. I do beleive that this was all a conspiricy. I voted for Bush twice, but if I had known then what I know now, I would not have voted at all. Our democracy is gone and soon our freedom will be as well

The monstrosity of the act prevents many from considering the abundant evidence - both from eye witnesses and from experts—which will one day, soon, be so overwhelming that it will be the basis for the uncovering the most horrific crime in our history.
The issue is clearly cause and effect, given what we know about the perpetrators. Intent on using our military superiority to further a policy of mastery over the rest of the world, this cabal of criminals decided that what was needed was another Pearl Harbor. All the dots are there for anyone prepared to connect them without fear.
We are living in the midst of an attempted coup by a group of unprincipled, ruthless and amoral individuals.
Report thisOne bright note: A poll by MSNBC which placed the issue before respondents: 59% believed this group either allowed it to happen or made it happen. The same question elicited a response if 29% two years ago. The chickens are coming home to roost.

Many of Dan Rather’s remarks are astonishing in their irony, prescience, and, sadly, ignorance.

I am British not American and I know about terrorism, from the IRA and from other extremists, I have the deepest sympathies for the American people for that awful day, for the thousands of people dead, injured and the loved ones left behind.
WeThePeople asked What has happened to my country??? looking at it from outside the beltway, you had a right wing/neocon coup d’état, and one of the greatest democracies in the world let it happen, and then 4 years later reinforced it, these guys are very very clever, not you-know-who of course, hes just The Manchurian Candidate.
The founding fathers must be turning in their collective graves, as will the thousands of Americans who have given their lives so that we can live like we do today.
America will rise again from the ashes of this terrible ordeal, I have no doubt about that whatsoever, but you must be vigilant, you must exercise your rights as laid down in We The People. One man/woman can make a difference, 300million and can make a huge difference.
God bless America.

I’d like to follow up on the commenter that gave truthdig credit for linking to Loose Change and 9/11: Press for Truth.
This 9/11 truth movement has got to be the most important movement in modern history.
All those union members, all those poor janitors, all those office workers and families on the jets, they deserve justice. It’s time for Bush and Cheney to face the music.

You ask, What has happened to my country? Countries, like people, can be kind and cruel, noble and venal, courageous and cowardly. I think we have allowed ourselves to be led into a cruel and venal period of our history when we can launch an attack of shock and awe on a nation that is no threat; when we can sanction kidnapping and torture; when we can take from the poor to give to the rich, exploit the sick and the elderly, abandon one of our own great cities in time of need. What makes our present behavior so tragic, so painful, is that it seems as if we have made a witting choice not to be kind, not to be noble, not to be courageous as if we have chosen not to be American. After we were attacked on 9/11, people from Paris to Baghdad claimed to be our allies, ready to stand with us. Even in Tehran, people demonstrated to show support for America. But too many saw the moment not as a time for justice to prevail to catch and prosecute the criminals who attacked us and thereby affirm American values and principles but as an opportunity to test out an ideology and to make money. We could have done better. Imagine if, instead of squandering blood and resources on war, we had marshaled all that good will and dedicated it to building hospitals and roads, schools and communication networks. Imagine if, today, 11 September 2006, our president, along with political and religious leaders from throughout the world, were standing on ground, say, in Africa, commemorating the tragic event of five years ago by opening a new Institute of Justice, a hall as august as our own Supreme Court an international tribunal not only where those who commit acts of terrorism would be brought to justice but where those who feel so aggrieved by injustice that they might strap a bomb to themselves or hijack an airliner could take their grievances for a fair hearing. We could have done better. We are a great country that has, for the moment, lost our way.

Watching David Letterman and Jon Stewart now makes me nostalgic for the feeling in the country that held sway right after the attacks. We could have risen to this occasion, like the great country we are, but instead, because of our abjectly inadequate leadership, we have squandered this opportunity. I can’t do better than Mr. Scheer’s article appearing today. However, I would add that the cynical use of the 9/11 tragedy by Bush and his people apparently knows no bounds. We have so much to repair! I am longing for the day when he and his warmongers are gone, and we can reach down into our hearts and start making our way back to greatness.

Finally one of my favorite Progressive sites has linked to a video that questions the official story about 9/11! (see the last 2 videos on this page)
I wish that other sites like Huffington Post, DailyKos, ThinkProgress, and Talking Points Memo had the courage to do so too.
Instead they seem to want to complain about the ABC joke-u-drama about 9/11. They complain that ABC should follow the 9/11 Commission Report, although that report is fatally flawed also.
We all deserve a better “official” explanation surrounding the events of that horrible day. Keep asking question my fellow citizens!
Keep up the great work Truthdig staff!

911 is an inside job. The “amateur” and “professional” hit footage is fake CGI (computer generated images)/augmented reality (AR)
For a difinative analysis, see that of Dr. Morgan R. Reynolds here http://www.nomoregames.net/index.php?page=911&subpage1=we_have_holes

We want the truth, nothing but the truth. We don’t trust 911 Commission as we never trusted the Kennedy’s Commission over 30 years ago. Pity for all of those who died 5 years ago at World Trade Center.

It has been 5 years since the most gruesome primitive attack of religious mass killing on American soil has happened. As thousands of people went to work in the world trade center towers that morning like any other, they could not possibly imagine the bloody fate that would await them that day. A fate that no one on earth should possibly ever have to endure. The effect it had on our country, the affected families, and all of us is scarring.
Let us please not forget what was at essence of these modern-aged attacks of middle-aged ignorance and barbarity. With utter importance that is nearly critical to our ability to continue to survive into the future as a species, let us not forget that these hideous attacks were in the name of someone’s ideas of god. Let us be disgusted that our world continues to be a place in which people kill each other over beliefs which all claim to be exclusively correct, and similarly all over not a shred of proof or relevance to today’s lives. Let us be disgusted at the response that our government-elect gave to the global stage our own president announcing a holy war in response, and citing what god wants many times in public speeches. What worse of a possible response could there be than to say you will stand up for the god which people of other beliefs hate you for believing in?
As the hijacker’s crashed the planes that day, the recordings play back their screams of
“Allaahu Akbar! Laa ilaaha illa-Lah!” “God allah is great, there is none worthy of worship except allah”
While I reject all thoughts and beliefs in god and detest all of the actions such beliefs lead people to do, this does not make me unpatriotic. Let the videos of the attacks, videos of the civilian death toll in our continuing war on terror, the American captive beheading videos, let them all be uncensored and broadcasted everywhere as a reminder of what we are really at war with the clash of ideals of god.
For humans to continue to live together and progress toward anything without complete cataclysmic destruction of one another most pressingly hinges on the ability of us to recognize the horrible things blind baseless faith makes people do. More specifically
Our ability to objectively and realistically understand that islam is an incredibly powerful force of blind faith that has oppression and malevolent violence tied to its roots since the beginning, and that Christianity and its exclusiveness on equally zero evidence is no better.
This is for everyone that lost their lives on that day because of someone’s “god”.

Now more than ever WeThePeople must fight against the tyranny of those who fomented the hate against our country. We must protect our Constitution and Bill Of Rights from those who would use this tragic incident to diminish or subvert our freedoms. While we must remain ever vigilant against terror, more importantly we must examine why it is that another group of people halfway around the world so hate the United States that they would sacrifice their own lives to inflict death and destruction upon us in our homeland.
Report thisThere are a lot of still unanswered questions and we are no safer today than we were on 9/11/2001; many would argue we are even less safe. Not only do we deserve answers, we deserve leaders who put WeThePeople first and foremost, above corporations, above war profits, and above partisan politics.
What has happened to my country???
