Elizabeth Dole

Elizabeth Dole was asked by Fox News to name a Democrat who was appeasing terrorists.  She couldn’t, but instead launched into a nonsensical yarn, loosely linking opposition to the long-ineffective missile defense program and the Patriot Act to appeasement.

Video & Transcript

Transcript (from Think Progress):

WALLACE: Senator Dole, which Democrats, and I’d like you to name them, which Democrats running for the Senate this year believe the terrorists can be appeased?

DOLE: Well, let me say, first of all, that I think what the administration officials were saying is that this is a very serious situation. They want the American people to realize that these are Islamic jihadists who are literally trying to destroy our way of life, destroy us, and they were raising the level of attention to just how serious it is.

WALLACE: I know, but some people –

DOLE: And I just want to say — let me just mention that the tools that are needed to fight the war on terror, such as the PATRIOT Act — now, there are a number of the Democrat candidates who are against the PATRIOT Act. Sherrod Brown, for example, who’s running against Mike DeWine in Ohio. I could name any number — um, Bob Menendez, I believe, voted against the PATRIOT Act. The Terrorist Surveillance Program, many of the Democrats have raised concerns about this particular tool, which enabled, the same kind of tool enabled the British to come across the plot to bomb airplanes, and the Bank Surveillance Act, and missile defense system, the Democrats have been against the missile defense system.

Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina I find it an embarrassment that a carpet bagger like Dole keeps getting elected to the US senate. But then again we are deep in the Bible belt here so all one has to say is “lordy lordy I know Jesus” and enough voters will believe the Rovian dribble that Dole or any other republican regurgitates. Personally I feel a deep shame of what this country has become under the rule of vile, arrogant, greedy neocons and fanatical evangelicals.

This is clearly someone who belongs along side Donald Rumsfeld in the poster for senility. Please can we get some people who still have functioning gray matter left.

hmmm

being against expanded government powers (expanded powers the Republicans opposed in 1990’s when Clinton sought greater wiretap authority)  and being against a very costly weapon system THAT DOES NOT WORK are examples of appeasing terrorists

so what does Mrs Dole call it when the act of invading a muslim country that didn’t attack us creates more terrorist recruits?

Thank you for reinforcing the fact that these Administration defenders, mainly Republicans, all LIE and AVOID THE TRUTH.  They lie.  Of course they lie.  Truth isn’t important.  Only what they think in their head, only what concoctions get brewed in their bunker-like mentality, seem to be “real” to them.  So why—why, indeed?—would anyone expect anything else from them?  They lie.  And networks like Fox aren’t journalists, they’re entertainers; they have no discipline or sensitivity or even any reason to ask hard questions.  Why, oh why, do you always seem to expect it?  By expecting it, it’s playing the victim, and that seems to be the role you’ve assigned for yourselves.
