Matthews, Hackett Demolish GOP CandidatePosted on Aug 22, 2006
This one was so brutal it almost wasn’t fun to watch. Almost. NBC’s Chris Matthews and antiwar veteran Paul Hackett made mincemeat of Texas GOP congressional candidate Van Taylor, whom they repeatedly chastised for using meaningless talking points. Taylor was more out of his depth than George Bush at a Mensa convention.

I have new respect for Chris Matthews. Yes, he is late to the party, but so what? In that respect, he’s like many Americans who are waking up to the harsh reality of the U.S. floundering in Iraq. And Hackett was incredible.
In a way, it was cruel, seeing them gang up on this poor nincompoop. But it’s also about freaking time. I had to admire the way that Hackett moved in for the kill after Matthews had badly mauled Taylor. If you Dems have any hope, it’s going to be in politicians like Hackett.
(I’ve been an anti-Bush Republican since the 2000 primaries. I hope you guys win big this November, because the GOP needs a wake up call and needs to jettison the garbage ASAP.)

Taylor and his lot deserve far worse. It’s a crime to talk in politcally motivated, meaningless sound bites and further confuse people about what we need to do to stop thousands of people from dying each day.

Obviously Matthews wants to be remembered as the commentator who “asked the hard questions” about the war in Iraq and the War on Terror(-ism).”
Too bad he took four years to figure out what questions to ask.

Mathews’ “HARDBALL” & his show is a FRAUD. Why doesn’t he question Ken Mehlman or Joey Two Times with the same fervor he spews at the helpless Van Taylor?
Report thisMathews is a typical example of a smart kid from a working class family who goes off to college & temporarily adopts the visions of his NEW mentors, only to return to his familiarity of his ideology as he ages.
What does Mathews believe in? From his questioning of Redcoats & Bluecoats I believe it’s clearly Power & all it brings! Watch his interviews, is there any doubt whom he enjoys playing “hardball” with?

Wow…I have stopped watching Mathews for a while; he was becoming too predictable. I am surprised—no, I am shocked—that he allowed a GOP candidate to be cut down if thats what happened. Thats not the Mathews I know. I thought he considered all Republicans to be great men.

Well, what can you expect from a Karl Rove “wanna-be” Taylor is almost as smart as Baby Bush and F-You Cheney. Just another Halliburton War Heroe.

I can’t believe Taylor is still using the old talking points to make an argument. Taylor got what he deserved by Hackett and Mathews. Needless to say, Taylor got smoked to a crisp. The look on his face after the drudging is priceless.
