Talking to Americans
From BoingBoing

In this Canadian TV series, a host asks everyday Americans how they feel about news stories that are, in fact, fake news. It’s played for laughs: But if you wonder how Bush’s version of reality went unchecked for so long, look no further than the people featured in this show.

Boing Boing:

Talking to Americans was a segment on the uproariously funny “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” CBC news/commentary show, in which Rick Mercer would go to the USA and ask Americans whether they believed that Russia should [give] the Chechens in Saskatechwan their freedom, or for help defending our national igloo, or for congratulations on legalizing insulin.

Rick Mercer doesn’t do these “interviews” anymore. Too easy and too predictable. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel to get the “average” American to make a complete fool of him/herself on TV.

But I don’t blame that “average” American for his/her ignorance. The introspective and introverted American education system is focussed almost entirely on “the greatest country in the world.” If it doesn’t exist or happen in the 50 states, IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

Americans who choose to get their higher educations elsewhere… Canada, England, Europe, for example, have a much more balanced and enlightened view of things… too bad there weren’t more of them!

Mercer did this stuff back in the late 90s-early 00s. In 2000 he got then-governor George W. Bush to thank Canadian prime minister “Jean Poutine” for his support. (Jean Chretien was the prime minister; poutine is a french fry-cheese curd-beef gravy side dish.) VP Al Gore agreed that, if elected, he would visit the Canadian capital of Toronto (it’s actually Ottawa).

Truthdig? I don’t know where you did this one out, but judging by Huckabee’s fatness (governor of AR), its several years old.
