Stewart Mocks RNC Chair’s ‘Adapt and Win’ MakeoverPosted on Aug 15, 2006
Watch Jon Stewart tear down Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlmans attempt to sell America on the outright lie that GOPers arent for staying the course in Iraq rather, theyre out to adapt and win. Talking point aficionado and RNC Chair Ken Mehlman recently appeared on Meet the Press to test drive the administrations latest reversal: The choice in this election is not between Stay the course and Cut and run, its between Win by adapting and Cut and run. Which led Stewart to observe, See thats the beauty of propagandait has no internal logic or integrity to violate. So, in one moment, basically everything youve heard about the United States and the administrations strategy in Iraq for the last two years is wrong. How about “We promise to stop feeding you this Bullshit as soon as we run out. We will tell the truth whenever there is no alternative.” Not that catchy I suppose.

Why does CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, or the News Hour not report these obvious changes in terms? Why does a comedy show provide more news about politics than the news shows?

How about a bumper sticker that says:
Condi can I pee?
That’s a factual presentation of how pathetic Bush is. Use his own scribble against him.
Or in the case of the GOP how about
Adapt & crap
Mehlman has probably already soiled his underpants worrying about November.

How about “Whip Insurgency Now!” or WIN—get it?
Oh—that one’s been used already?

Adapt and Win! I like it! It has that certain you-know, air of bullshit about it. It is just enough of a Bumpersticker to become a Republican mantra. Adapt and Win! ... it sounds a lot better than Cut and Run! though I think the Democrats should begin to Bumpersticker-ize their talking points as well… Cut and Win! Adapt and Leave!
Report thisDon’t get too clever though, that “Fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here” takes a Hummer-bumper to post.
How about we leave Iraq with the same 3 words we forged onto the bottom of their constitution:
HERE GOES NOTHING!

Another name for repug strategy could be “lie and steal”, or “lie and kill”, or maybe “lie and torture” and then “call mommy and cry”. Interesting fact, how many Americans are still sold on repub ideas, worn out slogans and propaganda… I agree with Mr. Peters, that Stewart and Colbert are refreshing alternative to right wingnut news. And that includes Corporate News Network.

Remember the Beirut bombing ..was it 1983?
A suicide bomber killed over 230 marines.
Reagan said we will not “cut and run”.... and of course he did.

It’s not about “cut & run”, or “stay the course”, or the monumentally inept “adapt & win”.
It’s about “aid & abet”, as in: why did this president aid & abet the real perpetrators of 9/11, the Saudis?
It doesn’t matter if we “cut & run”, “stay the course”, or “adapt & win” if we’re in the wrong war, does it?
We not only didn’t go after the people behind 9/11, the Bush Administration actively helped cover up their involvement.
Until we deal with that, we cannot possibly “win” any war against terrorism.

They even have a little 1984 montage when they zoom out to commercial on the screens in the back.

Actually, Republican pollster Frank Luntz was interviewed on “NOW” and he admitted that he DEVOURED “1984.” So maybe he really did use it as a how-to manual.

What’s wrong with the tried and true—
‘Lie and Win’?
And best of all a win is always just a Lie away.

More like ‘Adopt and Whine’
Adopt a previously failed tactic and whine about experienced tacticians criticism of it.

The amazing thing to me, is how many people will not see it. Pretty soon , adapt and win, will be said everywhere.
Report thisI have seen the Islamofacist thing catch on. Our government is far more fascist than the loosly connected groups of terrorists , militias and Islamic governments. But people will yammer about Islamofacists, whithout having a clue what Facism is.

Report thisThe thing is: all people lie. Left or right or center;—-BUT the Right has mastered it as an art and what is most insane—-with nonconvertible evidence in front of them they still lie.

John Stewart reports more accurate and detailed news in ten minutes on a comedy show than CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC do in ten weeks.
Is Stewart that wonderful or is the American news media that pathetic?

The only thing missing is a snippet of Bush using the new phrasing. But don’t worry - he’ll be using Adapt and Win soon enough.

Jeez, right out of 1984. If only I had my copy here at the office, I could cite the specific page number. Reminds of that great ad that TomPaine.com ran in the NYT a few years back, that accused the Bush admin of plagiarizing Orwell: “1984 was intended as a warning against the evils of totalitarianism ... not a how-to manual!”
