Marilyn Manson
From youtube.com

Those of you who only know him from his shock-rock act (or have only seen pictures) may not know that Marilyn Manson is extremely well-spoken and intelligent; and it’s all on display in this clip as he out-spars Bill O’Reilly on issues of sex and violence.

Andrew Sullivan:

Marilyn Manson out-argues Bill O’Reilly. Who couldn’t? Listening to O’Reilly lecture Manson about sex is particularly entertaining.

Surprisingly, Mr. O’Reilly acquitted himself in a fairly reasonable, non-hysterical fashion. I wish he would extend this to the rest of his broadcasts. Credit must go to Mr. Manson for having the smarts to undercut Mr. O’Reilly’s intended direction at every turn. His rejoinder to O’Reilly’s cut about homosexual acts (you need to talk to Richard Simmons and Liberace about that) was so on-point yet off the wall that O’Reilly could not even respond and completely dropped the topic. For someone of O’Reilly’s generation, Manson’s comment about Elvis was dead-on and irrefutable. Elvis, after all, was the white man accused of seeding lust and immorality and decadence simply by swivelling his hips like black people. Utterly fascinating. Manson’s comments on Columbine were very astute and would probably not be fully appreciated by people who don’t listen to heavy metal or death metal music. What Manson was saying, in part, is that if kids do not have an inlet or outlet for their alienation and frustration then you risk a lot more Columbines. Cf. Manson’s forefathers, Black Sabbath and Metallica.

It is because M Manson was answering his questions without getting wild-up. He was the focus of troubled youth but was calm and useful for Fox ratings. Really like that last line “and I respect you for challenging me.”

I didn’t get the sense that O’Reilly was really arguing with Manson at all, but was just giving Manson the opportunity to address common criticisms directed at him by conservatives. O’Reilly didn’t seem dismissive of his answers nor did he interupt or get combative like he sometimes does.  Seemed a fair interview.
