Gen. George Casey
From ABC News

Gen George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said a civil war “certainly is possible” and is “the most significant threat right now” in Iraq. He is the latest in a series of top generals to say so. (Earlier: Gen. Abizaid and Gen. Pace)

Think Progress:

In an interview with ABC News, Gen George Casey — the top U.S. commander in Iraq — said a civil war in Iraq “certainly is possible.” He described a potential civil war as “the most significant threat right now” in Iraq.

Casey adds his voice to a chorus of top generals — including CentCom commander John Abizaid and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace — who warn that Iraq is in danger of sliding into civil war.

All the exit options seem to depend on the (slender?) hope that Iraqi government forces will attain some autonomous ability to control the factions and disband the militias.  No one wants to envision a Plan B if this does not to work.  The Administration just might prefer to keep US forces in place, holding off disaster, until January 2009, so that the next White House occupant can take blame.  Would Kerry do any different?

You know, what surprizes me the most about the news of civil conflict breaking out in Iraq is not that its going to take place or, is taking place as I express these thoughts. Yet, everybody and anybody capable of getting their hands on a mic seems are able of stating something that was known to be obvious from the get go; with some real sense of discovery. What a very sad commentary that speaks to about the reat of our fellow bufallowed Americans. I mean I can clearly remember reading all the historical perspectives regarding this mis-adventure in the Wall St. Journal, Christian Sceince Monitor and Times, New York well before a shot was fired. Yet then I forget most Americans don’t read! Yet instead seem to perfer to have their news spoon fed to them. Who I really feel sorry for besides my chlidren and yours, who are going to have to pay for this; is all the innocent people who were just minding thier business before all this carp broke out around them. Who had the unfortunate luck to find themselves caught up in the madness of this situation. You know, the War Zone. I can not imagine and I have tried, to wonder what it would be like to be awaken by the impact of a 500 lb. bomb denoating within ear shot. To know that possbily a friend or love one may have been at ground zero.... It is time we put an end to that senseless madness and reality. If not, then I truly fear the Gods of what go’s around come back around; will surely come back to haunt us next go ‘round, with an indignation, that will make what took place 9/11 just an after thought. Are we really safe if no one else is? How can we be truly content, while others suffer? Travel abroad, with an American passport, is going to be a real carp shoot in a minute. The joke we’ll be handed called “Iraqi Freedom” is not going to make the world a safe place to be in a little while if we keep this crap up. But I guess it won’t matter if your able of having body guards surround your every movement any and, everywhere you go.
