Stewart Slams Lebanon CoveragePosted on Jul 19, 2006
“The Daily Show” host offers a roundup of Lebanon reporting and confronts the media’s seeming inability to process the crisis. With bombs falling and the body count mounting, CNN struggles to decide whether or not the Mideast may be on the verge of a potential conflict. “‘Brink of war?’ What does it take for you people to lose the question mark?” Meanwhile Fox News and others sink their teeth into the real meat of the story: how does all this affect us at the pump? Watch it:
Partial transcript: Stewart: ”As the bombs began to rain on Israel and Lebanon, at 4 PM Thursday, CNN asked the question, ‘brink of war?’ Huh? CNNs not sure. Is it war? The brink of war? The brink of the brink of war? A precipice, leading to a slope, ending on a brink҅with war?”

ladies & gentlemen… the spirit of Monty Python lives amongst us in Mr. Stewart.
“Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best...”
oh and Terry - Israel has lost its’ mind and will eventually realise what a monumental turd they’ve just made in losing their nerve & it would be nice to see someone, anyone in the American political leadership find some backbone and stand up to both Hezbollah and the AIPAC at the same time - but you can go screw yourself.

I have just sent thia letter to the editor of the Australian Jewish News:
I attended and took a minor part in Jon Faine’s ABC radio forum on the Middle East last week. After the session, a woman told me that I was both naïve and a “self-hating Jew”. Unhappily it was not possible for me to pursue the matter on the spot, so perhaps I can do it now.
I want to pose my naivete against her wisdom—a wisdom which has led to hundreds of violent deaths of Israelis, Palestinians and Lebanese, the destruction of a country’s infrastructure, the deepening of hatred of Israel in the Arab and Moslem world, a quantum leap in the attractiveness of antisemitic ideas to those so inclined, and first and foremost, an almost certain increase in the membership of such terrorist organizations as Hamas, Hezbollah and Al-Qaida.
Some wisdom.

Terry’s diatribe reminds me of all those AMERIKANS who kept referring to FDR as President Rosenfeld. It takes an idiot to be an anti-semite. Just like it took idiots to steal all of the property of the Japanese who were interned in camps during WW II. Is there anyone in this world more craven than a person who belives that a group, any group, is the cause of all of the world’s problems? It takes a heap of hate to be Terry.

Speaking of STUPID Lebanon coverage: Tucker Carlson was just interviewing some Lebanese government guy and asked “Why doesn’t the Lebanese government just expel Hezbollah as a foreign element?”
Duh! Hezbollah is a NATIVE LEBANESE MASS MOVEMENT OF 1.5 MILLION PEOPLE THAT AROSE ORGANICALLY AS A COMPLETELY INDEGINOUS RESISTANCE TO ISRAEL’S 1982 INVASION OF LEBANON!!!! They happen to be Shiites because Shi’a happens to be the dominant religion in Southern Lebanon!!!
Tucker Carlson has evidently accepted the fantastic neocon claim that Hezbollah is some discrete band of foreign individuals created and controlled by Iranian masterminds.
He also doesn’t seem to understand the difference between Hezbollah and Hezbollah fighters, which is like failing to distinguish between a member of Sinn Fein and an armed terrorist IRA fighter.

Oh this just pisses me off to no end and just proves the extent to which jews control the media, are willing to use the media to propagandize and lobby for Israel. Anyone who is intelligent enough to look beyond spin has to question whether jewish americans are patriotic to the United States or whether we are just using this country to get rich and to use our masses as a spare Israeli army.
Hmmm, 25 Israeli dead and 250 Lebanese while it was renegades in Lebanon not the Lebanese government that kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers...the Israelis have taken it upon themselves to bomb infrastructure and residential communities displacing hundreds of thousands of people. If the Israeli Mossad is so competent why do they need to bomb an entire country.
Greedy, blood thirsty, war mongering jews always looking for the bigger better deal. Always looking to expand Israel and appear the world victim while deflecting any accountability for their actions in the world.
As much as I dislike the muslim religion and their anti-american backward ways...I almost cant wait for Iran to get the bomb and for a nuclear exchange between Israel and a mulsim country. One has to wonder when exactly the price of zionist ambitions will be to high....one also has to beg the question when will the price of support for Israel be to high for the US?
Jews have done nothing but undermine the United States ever since they started immigrating here. When will this nation wake up and see the destruction that this small 1% segment of the population has done to our country and its values.
John Steward you went from entertaining to a filthy war mongering blood loving manipulative jew!

Jon Stewart is one of the handful of journalists who always gets it right. He is well-read, articulate, bright, funny, and honest. He is unique in the field of journalism. Colbert is also cut from the same cloth, as is Helen Thomas, Ariana Huffington, and Molly Ivens. Lots of great women journalists, obviously.

I think the earth screams
on a day like today
when children are burned alive,
they were grilled, said the doctor,
at the hospital, to the father,
who could not recognize his children’s blackened faces.
A rocket landed on their evacuation caravan.
I think the earth screams
on a day like today
when grandmother and child, unknowing of danger,
sitting on their balcony,
watching the neighborhood,
become flying bits of guts, bones, blood and meat.
A rocket smashed their perch down to the street below.
On a day like today
Report thiswhen I go in the early morning
to open the sanctuary, lighting candle and incense,
half the world away from rockets,
from the hard desolate people who shoot them,
listening, I hear a bird’s pitiless chirp, and silence.
I think the earth screams, but I don’t hear.

Reality on the ground:
“Lebanon is being bombed!”
“They’re shooting missiles!”
“The country’s infrastructure is being trashed!”
“Men, women and children are being killed by another country.”
Media:
“Bhuh, bhuh, but it’s Israel!”
“Israel is just fighting terrorists. Those elderly people and children are actually terrorists too. All that property belongs to terrorists”
“… and Hezbolla started it. They kidnapped some soldiers, so Israel is justified by this huge, enormous threat and attack by destroying Lebanon.”
War is peace. Freedom is war. Peace is slavery.

I have to support CNN’s recent coverage of the war.
Nic Robertson’s interview with a spokesman for Hezbollah while running thru a bombed-out Beirut was outstanding and showed the world the horrendous damage being done to civilian targets by Israeli air attacks.
Compare that to Brian Williams’ blog which is strictly from the Israeli point of view and to NPR coverage which (the last time I listened to it) was 100% Israeli.
Congrats to CNN for letting us all see firsthand the suffering of the Lebanese people!

But alas, I love Jon Stewart and his show...and the fact that he isn’t afraid to speak candidly about the truth and the facts. Truth, and facts? Yes those are the things that come out when politicized networks and financially backed “experts” are taken out of the equation.

As always, satirization of the news by the Daily Show is more on target than the actual news itself. Aside from the obvious point regarding the vapidity of our nation’s newscasting, the discussion of how we Americans are processing this is devastating.
What a sad statement the news organizations believe, and are probably correct in doing so, our main reaction to the carnage will be felt at the pump, not in the heart.

I think CNN is a bit gun-shy. They may feel the right wing will slam them if they go ahead and call a war, A WAR. They are right to fear this since it will likely happen. Of course, Faux News Service, will not declare anything until Dick Cheney tells them to go ahead. Karl Rove may also be authorized to snap the whip over Roger Ailes’ head.

Remember Mr. Stewart that this is the age of Bush. Self defense is attacking the only country that didn’t have a hand in 9/11. This is the country that allows a posturing coward to pretend he is a military sort of guy. The sort of guy who allows his ancillary friends to smear brave warriors as cowards and a strange quiet in the media for most of this time about G. W. use of family wealth and his volunteer status in the Natl Guard to avoid being the military hero he seems to think he is. “Our voices are like wind in the grass, rats feet over broken glass in or dry cellar”. Sadly this is the gift of not just this right wing nut case, but both sides of the political business.
