Stewart Rips Sean Hannity and Robert NovakPosted on Jul 13, 2006
“The Daily Show” host pointed out the hypocrisy in Sean Hannity’s double standard on the ethics of leaking classified information, and slammed Robert Novak for making light of destroying CIA agent Valerie Plame’s career. Stewart said about the conservative talk show host: “Sean Hannity will not tolerate whistle-blowing, but he loves the bitch-slapping.” Imitating Novak, Stewart said: “For me destroying people is like a sorbet. A trifle—an amuse bouche, if you will. I have my eggs, my coffee, and then it’s off to jazzercize.” Watch it: Advertisement Previous item: GOP Rep. Winterfire6 blathers on about a lot of issues in his last comment, but one in particular caught my eye. He blames the GOP and the oil companies for high oil prices. Another liberal lie! Here’s the facts: The oil companies make 6 cents of profit on each dollar of oil sold, or about 18 cents per gallon, if my math is correct. The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. Depending on what state you live in, your state tax will run anywhere from 8 cpg to 32 cpg. Call me a wooden headed conservative if you must, but it seems to me that if the government quit taxing the hell out of gasoline, the price would be a whole lot lower. One other factor in high prices—Americans from all sides of the political spectrum absolutely refuse to cut back on gas consumption. Econ 101 talks about supply and demand. Figure it out!

“If the White House has something to say to a critic, why not walk up to the biggest podium on earth and say what they have to say? Why all the slithering? “
The earth’s biggest podium walked up to the White House, that’s why. Novak’s column is syndicated and published in over 300 newspapers nation wide and has been since 1966.
“Novak is also quoted as saying that Bush knows who it is. Presumably, so does Fitzgerald. Dont we, the people, have a right to know?”
In fact we don’t have that right. That’s why grand jury testimony and documents are secret.
“Here is another question: who told Karl Rove, a political operative, about Plames job at the non-proliferation unit. He had no official need to know, which is required under the law.”
Again incorrect. Plame works for the executive branch of government. The constitution places ALL foreign policy decisions in the executive. Anyone operating outside the U.S. as an envoy of any type is beholding to the executive.
“It really says a lot about the state of our nation when comedians like Stewart and Colbert are more trustworthy sources of news than anyone else on Cable, except, maybe, Olberman.”
Actually, this really says a lot more about you.

Yes, I am ver proud that I do not have ideological brain rot. I vote for the person, not the party, at least, until now.
Other than trying to convice me that I am crazy, the Democrats are crazy, everyone is, apparently, crazy who has not sipped of the Bush Koolaid, what is you point?
Can you deny that the United Staes is now owned by people who probably do not have our best interests at heart; China, Saudi Arabia,to name a couple, and that Dubai Ports World is still set to take over our ports, through a company in Oman? Our debt is staggering, and for what?
With the money we have flushed down the toilet in Iraq, there could have been a Prius in every drive way, by now, and we would be a lot less dependent on foreign oil.
But that isn’t what the oil guys want, now is it? They have accomplished what they wanted; higher oil prices and war profiteering that would cause Harry Truman to have a stroke were he not already dead. Truman, rightly, called war profiteering, treason.
If your only arguement for your position is to insult people, it’s not much of an argument, but it is one we have all grown used to from wingnuttia. It’s what people say when they have nothing legitimate to say.
So, go on back to Freeper-land, and console yourself.

Winterfire6—You have presented the assembled masses with another teachable moment. I’m grateful for that, since it was your cockamamie post that started all of this. Let’s try a few facts”
Report this1. I don’t care how much money Keith Olberman makes. Money does not equal success. The cold, hard facts are that Olberman washed out at ESPN, and now hosts a news show (allegedly) that nobody watches. He had more viewers tuned in to watch him on the 1AM Sportscenter than ever watch him on cable news.
2. You say that you are a “moderate independent.” To paraphrase an online news magazine of the same name, you’re “not left, not right, not doodleysquat.” Moderate independent means that, just like a garden gate in the wind, you could swing either way at any moment. You must be very proud!
3. We’re in serious economic trouble? Somebody forgot to read you the latest economic numbers. Unemployment is low, government revenue has skyrocketed, the national debt is falling, minority ownership of business is rising, and millions of new jobs have been created. All of this despite Katrina, 9/11, massive government spending, the war, and the Clinton recession. God bless George Bush and his tax cuts!
4. You believe that the Democrats will win in future elections? Of course, only time will tell, but I’ll make a prediction. In the 2006 elections the GOP will retain majorities in both houses. In 2008 we will see a true Reagan conservative get elected president (someone like Gingrich or Allen or Tancredo) and the GOP will increase their leads in both houses. Why will this happen? Because liberals are nuts, they have no idea how to govern, they are anti-national security, and they are nuts (did I say that already?). America sees the Democrats for what they are. Good luck with your psychotherapy!

Hondo, Honda, whatever….
Here are a few questions for you:
Do you make as much money as Olberman? Since that seems to be the only way convervatives can measure success, unless you have a job and make more than Olberman, you probably shouldn’t refer to him as a failed anything.
You should also know that I am not a Liberal. I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I am a moderate independent. When I came of age, a Democract president had lied us into another quagmire and a Republican kept on lying and getting more and more of my generatioon killed for nothing, therefore, I trust neither of the major political parties.
Most of my friends are also independent moderates. I can tell you that we have all moved to the left over the last 5 years because anyone in their right mind would run as fast as they could, away from this BuCheney brand of “conservatism.”
In case you haven’t noticed, your Party has gone to hell in a hand basket and threatens to take the country with it. When will you get your head out of you ass; when Saudi Arabia owns the street in front of you house, when it finally dawns on you that unless you make over a million a year, this president and congress do not give one tinker’s damn about you, when you have to a pay 5 bucks a gallon for gasoline or, maybe, when you discover that tracking devices have been implanted in your kids and you have a minicam up your buttt so that the government can know you every move?
Joe Stalin can only sit in hell and applaud.
You need to get over the idea that the United States is all powerful. It isn’t. Right now, we are in serious economic trouble. It will only get worse, as the rest of the world puts the squeeze on us, and they can, thanks to this borrow and spend version of “conservatism.”
This election year, I will do something I have never done in my entire life. I will vote straight Democrat. If they regain control of the House and Senate, they will be held to account as well.
Our country is broken. It will take much hard work to fix it. It will also take good people who have integrity, are honest and hardworking, for the people of this country, not the sociopathic multinational corporations.

These posts present us with a teachable moment. I, as an educated Christian conservative, made the comment that a person could probably do better than to get their news from comedians or failed sportscasters. Sherab Zangpo responded with verbal abuse of a sexual nature, but said nothing educated to refute my statement. What are the chances that Zangpo is registered on some sort of government sex offenders list? Saul2006 did the same thing with his comment, trying to link Novak with pedophilia. Still no educated, factual commentary. Do these two twisted souls represent the very best of liberalism today? It’s no wonder a liberal can’t win big elections!

In response to Hondos remark to Winterfire6. It is high time for Hondo to come out from under his mothers skirt and face facts. Or maybe his reacharound position of his Dad. It obvious that this person has no sense of what is. This person should stand up and take responsibility for what we are really doing in Iraq and he should be helping the military pick up body parts with his or her bare hands and throw them in the pile, unless of course it is an American whom is deposited in a body bag stamped members missing. It always amazes me as to how many hawks are neocons hwo have never even seen the actual brutality of war.

In response to the very last sentence in winterfire6’s post from July 14: No, but it does say a lot about the state of our nation that so many ignorant liberals consider comedians like Stewart and Colbert, or failed sportscasters like Olberman, trustworthy sources of news. Good grief, liberal scarecrows, ask the wizard for a brain!

Ann Coulter thinks newspaper columnists who reveal covert U.S. spy programs that are instrumental in the war on terror should be executed.
For once I agree with her.

Winterfire sums it up quite well; especially the dumbing down of schools so as to create future generations that will “dumbly follow”.
I also watch Stewart and Colbert to get the REAL news and to laugh at a government, administration and congress that is out of control. Thank you Comedy Central and Colbert for making this present climate in America one that I can laugh at and realize I am not alone in the absurdity of what is taking place now. Humor seems to be the only freedom that has not been taken away!!!!
And Stevens on Net Neutrality, is this what a congressman is and gets paid good money for? He was totally clueless on the concept and yet has input on the decision!!! Stewart’s spoof on tubes and trucks was priceless!!!!

Stewart is soooo right on!
Novak protects sources who are nothing but snakes slithering around back channels to smear someone who had them dead-to-rights in a huge, costly lie and Hannity praises him.
Whistleblowers who believe the Bush administration is destroying the constitution with one secret domestic spying program after another goes to the NYT, who sits on the story for over a year, in a couple of cases, and finally publishes the programs and Hannity calls it treason. Why go to the NYT instead of the leaders in Congress? Well, that should be obvious. This Rethug congress has done nothing but cover for this corrupt, lying, criminal White House since 9/11.
What part of whistleblower does Hannity not get?
If the White House has something to say to a critic, why not walk up to the biggest podium on earth and say what they have to say? Why all the slithering?
This all reminds me of the “secret bombing” of Cambodia. Did the Cambodians fail to notice they were being bombed? If they knew it, we can bet that China and Russia knew it as well. The only people who didn’t know it were, as always, us.
(Does anyone really believe that terrorists don’t know they are being monitored forty ways from Sunday?)
Up until this war, Americans were always the last to know what our government was up to. Not so this time, thanks to the Internets. Unfortunately, the dumbing down of America, with schools that suck and do not teach critical thiinking, and a corporate news media who never tell the truth until badgered and threatened by the blogosphere, has been remarkably successful.
But, the question remains, who is Mr. X, who is, according to Novak, not a political gun-slinger and is a high administration official who is not easy to get to. If Novak is telling the truth in his description of his primary source, the mystery shouldn’t be all that hard to unravel. How many people in this admiistration are not political gun-slingers? Hell, I thought they all were. Novak also said, a while back, not long after he wrote the article outing PLame, while he was still on Crossfire, that he did not seek this story; that it was handed to him.
Novak is also quoted as saying that Bush knows who it is. Presumably, so does Fitzgerald. Don’t we, the people, have a right to know?
Here is another question: who told Karl Rove, a political operative, about Plame’s job at the non-proliferation unit. He had no official “need to know,” which is required under the law.
It really says a lot about the state of our nation when comedians like Stewart and Colbert are more trustworthy sources of news than anyone else on Cable, except, maybe, Olberman.
