A WSJ Editor Compares Gay Marriage to Animal Marriage

WSJ editor Dan Henninger

Wall Street Journal editor Dan Henninger

Stephen Colbert highlights a clip of an editor from the Wall Street Journal saying that in the wake of a woman in India supposedly marrying a snake, gay-marriage supporters in America should now be required to guarantee that animal marriage is not around the corner.

Raw Story:

HENNINGER: This is a footnote to our gay marriage discussion: A woman in India last week married a snake. I would like to ask the proponents of gay marriage--which violates, after all, traditions going back through all of human history--to now absolutely, positively guarantee that the next movement is not going to be allowing people to marry their pet horse, dog or cat. And you know What? Given the “anything goes” culture we live in, I don’t think they can deliver that guarantee.

This is one of the most bizarre stretches of logic I’ve ever seen. But then again, it’s what we’ve come to expect from people who neither understand nor wish to understand why Gay couples would want to marry.

Henninger could have easily said, “If you allow a woman to marry a man, what’s to prevent her from marrying a snake?” It makes just about as much sense.

But then, many women will tell you that men ARE snakes.

Wow.  So marrying another *person* is somehow akin to marrying a ... snake?  How did we get from *person* to *snake*?

I imagine marriage to a snake is something Henninger’s wife (or wives, present and former) would know a lot about.

And even worse than snakes, goats, and elephants, they might start to marry and try to breed more far right Republicans.  It has become increaingly amazing to me that despite how self indulgent, hateful and intolerant, and absolutely inaccurate many of the commentators of the Right have degraded into, their every foolishness is reported and, often, left free of legitimate questions and criticism.

Since when does it become the responsibility for homosexual persons to guarantee the behavior of those who engage in bestiality?

He isn’t actually suggesting there’s any connection whatsoever between a homosexual orientation and a predilection to have sexual relations with an animal… is he? Surely even Henninger isn’t so ignorant that he confuses the two.

With so many supposedly “educated” people airing their profound ignorance on the subject of human sexuality I can only wonder what in hell they’re teaching in our schools these days? Doesn’t peer reviewed research and established FACT count for anything any more?
