CNN: ‘Therapists’ Claim to Cure Away the Gay

Gay-curing therapists
From AMERICAblog

This supposedly gay-curing “therapist” is said to be one of the best in his field.

CNN runs a must-watch segment on quacks who claim to cure people of their homosexuality. (One method: smashing a pillow with a tennis racket while screaming your mother’s name.)

AMERICAblog:

Oh man, you really really really have to see this CNN report on these quacks who claim they can “cure” away the gay. This is the video you need to download and show to anyone who ever brings up these wackjobs ever again.

My favorite parts:

1. Where the gay guy in “therapy” says that the reason he turned gay is that he had “emotional incest” with his mom. Uh huh.

2. The wacky “ex-gay ‘therapist’” showing that one way to cure yourself is to take a tennis racket and beat the crap out of a pillow while screaming your mother’s name (it’s totally freaky). This will help you release “hidden memories in your muscles.” Yes, your muscles store memories that make you gay. And don’t forget, this “therapist” is pretty much the top guy in this “field.” He’s one of their “best.”

“I am still not convinced that people are only born gay.”

It’s called the Kinsey scale, brother. I believe is the most logical assement of both heterosexual and homosexual behavior. We are not so different.

Those who practise as this “therapist” does are guilty of ABUSE and should be charged and sentenced accordingly.

As well, the parents/guardians who condone such “therapy” should be charged and convicted as accomplices in that abuse.

Every individual has the inalienable RIGHT to SELF-DETERMINATION… to grow and learn and understand him/herself without interference from anyone, including parents, teachers and religious dogma.

..and we call ourselves ‘civilized’!  Sigh.  This is sad, just plain sad - I don’t know whatelse to say.

Methinks the ‘therapist’ needs helps… and LOTS of it!

Hard to know whether or not to respond in any way to such stupidity—- does it feed or starve the hate and ignorance?  My sister is a proud dyke and I am her proud sister who is also proud of her—I have seen such pain inflicted upon her because she’s a dyke, mostly by strangers.  And when you love someone, his/her pain becomes part of your own.

So I decided to respond to this story—just to say that and this once more:  My sister is a lesbian and of course so much more, all of which makes me love and respect her.

SO, if there’s a cure for that, my sister doesn’t want or need it, I don’t want it or need it and all of our family and friends don’t want it or need it for her.

I do, however, sincerely hope that a cure is found for the disease these “therapists” try to inflict upon others because we all know they are suffering so much more than those of us who accept and celebrate who we are.

Mom made you a homosexual?

How about just accepting that it is one of the ways of being, part of the spectrum of human affection and attachment.

Reminds me of something I saw written on a wall once.

“My mom made me a homosexual”

And the reply:
“If I gave her the wool, would she make me one too?”

I am still not convinced that people are only born gay.  I have watched in my own life as certain individuals embraced being gay because a deeper desire, and others that did so because of abuse from the opposite sex.  The Nature vs. Nurture question has still not been adequately explained.  There may be a gay gene, but there also may be a gay environment.  I wish the media would look at the larger picture.

Now if they could only cure those that ask Catholic priests to forgive their sins and give them absolution and those that throw money at Televangelists and Mega churches , they will have a accomplished something positive for the humanity

Nice report.  Now, can I also purge memories of Operation Shock and Awe, the disgusting tax cuts and Medicare reform, energy reform with Cheney and Co., no-bid contracts in reconstruction in Iraq and Katrina, the stupid bickering and racist words coming out of Congress toward immigration reform, etc. by smacking a pillow with a tennis racket also?  Maybe all that aggression is stored somewhere in my muscles too.  Or, perhaps there was some emotional incest going on when Bush and Co. went into power in 2001.  Where’s the therapy for that?  Oh wait, you just can’t switch that feeling off.
