Chris Matthews to DeLay: ‘I Owe You’Posted on Apr 5, 2006
That’s what the “Hardball” host tells the disgraced representative in a not-meant-for-airing exchange surfaced by the Huffington Post. Also see the sexist comment DeLay made about Hillary Clinton. (video)

Chris Matthews is one of only a few on-air personalities that actually asks follow-up questions to people who are blatantly (and sometimes not so blatantly) full of s*#t. When he was thanking Delay, and telling him that ‘he owed him,’ it was for Delay appearing on his show so close to the time of resignation. His interview was a big scoop as far as the news business and Matthews was grateful that he chose his program to give the interview. Does this mean that Matthews is in his pocket? That Matthews can’t be fair b/c he appreciates a high-profile, timely interview? I personally don’t think it has any impact on these questions. Watching Hardball daily makes me appreciate journalists who don’t simply give talking points, whether it be in favor of or against the administration or individual political parties. Personally I hate Delay and think that he personifies much of the corruption both in the Republican party specifically and in Washington in general. Regardless, I don’t think that Matthews is a problem - rather, I think that he has been successful in trying to sort valid arguments from political rhetoric.

I love to watch Chris Matthews, but I have discovered in him what I should have known before. He has the traditional Catholic dislikd of elitists, intellectuals, and Jews and the traditional Catholic affinity for a populistic attitude which borders on fascism or at least makes fascism possible.sd He’d make a good member of the Knights of Columbus.

Matthews is the other side of the problem we have with our politians; both after glory or money without honor.

I think Tom Delay is reprehensible and I’m glad he resigned, but let’s be fair here. Matthews tells him about a negative focus group on Hilary Clinton and the FOCUS GROUP said she came across as a “know-it-all”. Delay on hearing this, basically repeats it back to Matthews saying “nothing worse than a woman know-it-all”. There is so much to dislike about Delay that we don’t need to be taking statements out of context misrepresenting them. I thought this video was worse for Matthews actually…

Or somebody’s got dirt on Matthews. He can’t be any further up Tom’s as* here or he WILL be seeing it through Tom’s eyes.

What as ass kisser. Delay tries to save what little of his image that remains, Matthews gives hime all this air time to spin away, and then Matthews THANKS Delay!
Delay must still cary a lot of influence.
