Feingold Dresses Down CNN’s Soledad O’Brien

From crooksandliars.com

The Wisconsin senator tells CNN host Soledad O’Brien that she has been intimidated by the RNC into believing that there exists a serious legal debate over the legality of the president’s spying program.

DailyKos reacts:

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien’s interview with Russ Feingold today would have made Kyra Philips proud.  In a magnificent feat of bimbotude, O’Brien goes from claiming censure is a “kind of a slap on the wrist” to “something quite serious” in one minute flat. “The jury’s not back” on the program, she claimed, to which Feingold replied “the jury’s been dismantled”.  Feingold brilliantly called her on her ignorance, telling her the RNC intimidated her, because that’s the only way someone would think there is a serious debate about the legality of the program (almost all legal scholars have declared that the program is blatantly illegal).

This administration has told so many many mis-truths to this country for so long that it bogles the mind.  The main stream media for the most part has downplayed all of them.  Therefore when the American people hear about wire-taps it’s like , oh well , he’s doing something else he’s not supposed to do.  I am appalled at how many people take this issue so lightly.  The people in this country need to go back and read “1984”.

Where are the majority of Democrats?  Doing what they always do—playing paper opposition Party to the GOP Fascists.  Remember folks,  both Parties are bought & paid for by the same Corporate elite.  As improbable as it seems, the USA needs a 3rd, Citizens-based Party.
( Damn proud I voted for Nader in 2000.  I will vote Green, Libertarian or Independent—I will never, ever vote for the Democrats again. I refuse to die on my knees).

Today’s Repubs are completely transparent.  They say and do whatever it takes to stay and continue to stay in power.  Democrats, on the other hand, are a complete mystery.  Instead of turning their scorn on Bush, they turn it on one of their own!  Is this sane?

I so hope you are right but I have to doubt it. The rethugs have plenty of time and all the money they need to spin information. by Nov they will all look like heroes. the democrats are great at only two things. hiding their heads in the sand and losing opportunities.

Well we’ve gotten our Democratic Senator from Cali onboard, now if we can get Sen. Diane “Leiberman Lite” Feinstien to make the plunge we’ll probably carry the whole Dem side of the Senate. Keep calling and e-mailing…it really does work if enough people do it.

History will judge the Republican majorities in both legislative branches more stridently for their cowardice.  When the Democrats blow back into Washington, and this means about 25,000 Federal appointees, we’ll get some payback.  I can’t imagine being a Republican in the next Democratic administration !!

It’s pretty amazing, that with the history of this President and Administration, that the Dems can’t get out of their own way and sieze the moment ... And the charges of Feingold grandstanding - He is, after all, the only member that didn’t vote for the Patriot Act ...

Here’s what I did on The Garlic today;

I am totally behind Feingold.  Where is everybody?  We’ve got to stop this unitary executive power nonsense.  It’s getting out of hand.

I am saddened that the dems aren’t standing with Feingold on censuring the Pres. for his blantant disregard for the law.  Read Molly Ivins’ article on DC Dems, she is right on the mark.

I can’t believe more people are not backing this effort!  Maybe it would be counterproductive to argue for impeachment for this most serious violation of civil and constitutional rightrs, but at least we need to call him on his arrogant disregard for the law.
