Letterman Skewers O’ReillyPosted on Oct 28, 2006
David Letterman takes Bill O’Reilly to task over the Iraq war and more: “You’re putting words in my mouth, just the way you put artificial facts in your head.” When the mega pundit said the U.S. should remain in Iraq though mistakes had been made, Letterman shot back: “So that means we’ve made a mistake in war so we stay there and kill as many Americans as we possibly can. Yeah, that’s the way you get out of a mistake.”

Only one post in favor of Billo O’Racist? It seems that this audience is definitely on cue with what most of us honest liberals and conservatives in America have always known, that Faux News is a propoganda arm of the GOP, Billo O’Racist, Sean Profanity Hannity, Ann Reichstag Coulter, Slush the Big Fat Idiot Drug Addict Limpbaugh, Brent the Bozo Bozelle, and the rest of the far right lunatic legion of doom are simply reflecting what most of the nation already believes and wants done in the realm of foreign policy.

I have watched Letterman for years, and have never seen him so hot..It was refreshing to see something we haven’t seen in a very long time. “A man saying what he means, and meaning what he says.” Honesty and true feelings of how outraged Letterman is as all Americans should be over the loss of our military men and women. As Letterman said, “Had we gone to Afghanastan after those responsible for 9/11 this might all be over.
Report thisBush says “I don’t care about bin-Laden” Excuse me but those of us with brains want bin-Laden and his little band of killers.
Great job, David Letterman. Thanks for your honesty and putting O’Reilly in his place.

Letterman set O’Reilly right? I don’t think so. Letterman came across as merely angry and defensive - which is all too often the case with “Lefties.” Anyone watching could see that Letterman was uncomfortable. Not a good advertisement for Democrats, but sadly representative of the current state of the Party and things in general.

This O’Riley guy has to be conbatative even when he says that he is being reasonable, even though Letterman did one up O’Riley, he certainly did get him to listen, something he rarely does. Another take on Religion, when Kennedy was running the Catholic church was going to take over, “We were going to be controled by the pope”, now that Bushie boy uses religion I guess it is o.k. to mix religion and politics since when is it religious to have a guyl like Foley, who was protecting the exploited children, by showing how to exploit children, if this is religion in politcs please go back to the seperation of church and state, and even the abortion issue should go back to the states, this issue is not in the constitituation.

Letterman did OK, but I’d only grade him a “C.”
In the first place, Bill, what’s a “win?” Define it. Is it a secular democracy, which will never, ever, never endure in Iraq? Is it a Disney theme park in Baghdad? What? What is this “victory” you’re talking about? And even if there is a win to be had, what is the cost that YOU are prepared to absorb? Are you ready to give your life for it? Yeah? Good - then go. Support one troop and give him or her a ticket home as you take their place.
And wasn’t it your boy Bush who told us the war on “terror” would be never-ending? Where’s the “win” in a war that, by your definition, can’t end?
And although YOU might be ready to admit that WMD’s didn’t exist in Iraq when we invade, the liar Bush that you support said “we found them.” How do you explain that?
And as for your little fiction about the al qaeda operative working in the Kurdish north with Saddam’s assistance, please tell us how Saddam pulled that one off, since under the containment plan that evolved…and was working…after the first Gulf War, Saddam has about as much influence and presence in the Kurdish north of Iraq as he did in the Bronx. Probably less.
And if you think the Middle East is more stable now than after our invasion, you need to cut back on the LSD.
Finally, there were fewer than 3,000 people who were killed in the 911 attacks, as you stated. However, now thanks to the momunental stupidity and jingoism of morons like you, we’ve lost more Americans in Iraq, a place the 911 attackers had little if anything to do with, than we did in the 911 attacks.
Oh…but thanks for finally admitting that oil is a big reason why we started this excellent adventure. You probably forgot the two years you spent claiming the oil had nothing to do with this war.
Asshole.

If for no other reason than to educate the late nite viewer who just finished watching dancing with the stars, this joust between o’Reilly and Letterman hopefully introduced doubt and turned naive support for Bush and Co. to “What are we really doing there.” At least O’Reilly wasn’t allowed to use his usual bully “shut up” routine on a thoughtful articulate host such as Letterma.

It is interesting to see the “bully” decsription finally starting to spread. I am not from the US but do you people really want your media represented world-wide by the likes of Hannity and O’Reilly?
Finally people are catching on and they are being called, deservedly, bullies and thugs. They way they treat guests who might have a slight (or major) difference to their opinion, is to not let them speak and to talk all over them.
As a catholic myself, I can see no greater example of the strong need for separation between church and state than so-called catholic Hannity -an absolute thug who makes no attempt to act as a journalist and give proper perspectives.
If I hear his Nancy Pelosi talking points once more before next weeks elections, I will hurl.
Even Cavuto is a baby-faced version. He treated George Soros like the anti-Christ. Soros, who has done more good than any of them plus their boss Rupert Murdoch, and states hs opinions calmly and rationally, is now some huge threat to the US. Why? Because he is supporting a major, registered, historical what…? well actually a US political party. It must be illegal now to support other than the Republican party.
O’Reilly lied again about Saddam and Al Quaida on Letterman as shown if you follow the links from the story of his Letterman interview.
Truth, diplomacy and manners - these have gone out the window with bullies in the White House and bullies in the media.
And you have to be either with or against them. After all, “Don’t you want Anerica to win?”
As Mark Twain almost said: “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel bully”.
Any program which has to regularly repeat slogans like “We Report You Decide” and “The Spin Stops Here” has no credibility at all…. and we all know where the spin starts.

What the world needs now, more than ever, is reason. O’Rielly is a salesman motivated by his own greed. So is Letterman, for that matter. The hardest thing I have had to do in my lifetime is to live my life subject to the ignorant, greedy people the world over who continue to exploit and otherwise victimize those of us, the world over, who are simply trying to keep alive and protect those we love. Case in point is the Iraq war. It’s a war killing and maiming tens of thousands to protect the interests of greedy capitalists. The Bush administration and Congress couldn’t say that because there would be widespread rebellion. Instead, they call it a war on terror. Horseshit!! Someday there will be no oil and someday, hopefully, the $500 billion “found” to fund this travisty can also be found to create an education system in which every American can learn to think and to understand that, ultimately, the real power for good, reason and change in a world Democracy lies with themselves.

O’Reilly and his fellow travelers hold to the principle that it’s much smarter to fight our war in someone else’s country. And those 3,000 Americans, not to mention the 650,000 Iraqis who have been killed as a result of that principle?
Keeping Mr. O’Reilly and his followers and the draft dodging likes of Cheney, Bush and Rush from being killed confirms the principle that warring over there means there’s no warring over here. “Mistake” is a no-brainer.

More and more the “conservsative” movement is being characterized by classless and loud characters like Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. These classless thugs, with little more than bully appeal, are a sharp contrast to the carefully constructed reason of intellectuals like George Will and other respectable members of the conservative movement.
Even on “conservative” websites, liberal use of outright profanity, falsehoods and character attacks are more commonly becoming the rule of order such as on Polipundit where the more reasonable “conservatives” were recently purged in favor of hard core racists who can write steaming hate features against poor illegal immigrants who only come to this country to earn a living.
This new “conservative” appeal to thuggery is not a healthy movement for this country, and embodies some very dangerous and antidemocratic values. It is not a rational movement that can be reasoned with, and no extremism seems too far for those who follow this dangerous new trend in right wing extremism. It simply has too much in common with the thuggery of the “brownshirts” of the past to suit me.
