Andrew Sullivan on GOP Homosexuality and Hypocrisy

Andrew Sullivan and Stephen Colbert

Conservative blogger and gay activist Andrew Sullivan visited “The Colbert Report” to discuss the GOP’s double standard when it comes to homosexuality: “In Washington, all the Republicans are perfectly gay-friendly.  They’re staffed by gay people, they’re okay with gay people, I mean the vice president’s daughter is an open lesbian.”

When Colbert asked Sullivan if Republicans were going to start outing gays within the party, he responded: “I think there’s a beginning of a moment when they can’t keep the current facade going.  They can’t pretend to be tolerant in private, and intolerant in public.  They’re either going to have to purge all the gays from the Republican Party or they’re going to start having to behave like grown-ups and treat us like human beings.  It’s one or the other.  They can’t keep this balance going.”

He was one of the strongest supporters of the invasion of Iraq, and that’s very nearly unforgivable.

Learn a few facts before you bash Sullivan—- he does not “always” find a reason to vote Republican—- in fact he voted for Clinton and John Kerry.  He supported Bush in 2000 because he disliked Al Gore’s populist rhetoric and thought Bush would be more moderate than he has turned out to be.  He was wrong and has acknowledged as much.  But for Christ’s sake the man is the most well spoken advocate for gay rights in the United States today. Period.  Give him a little bit of credit.

John McCain, Christie Whitman, Colin Powell…
Andrew, after their nearest and dearest, would
they so much as blink before throwing you,
Cheney’s daughter and any homosexual under the bus!

If there ever was a time to tell a
gay man not to bend over, this is it!

Is this called hipocricy?
Isn’t it symptomatic of the Republican Administration today?
They dislike the fundamental religious right, but pretend to adhere to their values.
They lie about what they’re doing when they dismantle ecological policies.
They pretend to “fix” things only to break them up, like Social Security.
They say there’s no civil war in Iraq.
They say they’re winning in Afghanistan.
And so on and so on and so on….

I agree with #28649. How anyone that should have a true understanding of what it means to belong to a supressed minority can vote for the fascists is beyond me. I have nothing but contempt for this gay and all other gays that have voted for the Bush regime, I hate your guts and I will not forgive you for the harm you have caused America and the world. SHAME ON YOU. (And no, Im not gay.)

Why not?  Isn’t this just what Andrew Sullivan has done for years - pretending to be rational & open-minded to the Democratic argument, then always finding a reason to vote with the redcoats?  Why do you give this blowhard a forum?
