Blizter Humiliates GOP Rep. McHenry

Wolf Blitzer and Patrick McHenry
From Comedy Central

Make sure to watch Jon Stewart’s reaction at the end of this clip.

Wolf Blitzer made GOP Rep. Patrick McHenry look foolish on CNN by exposing McHenry’s baseless charges that Democrats were orchestrating Foleygate. (It’s actually a “Daily Show” clip, and Stewart nails it, too.)

Watch it

AMERICAblog:

Blitzer: Well you don’t have any evidence though, right?

Rep. McHenry: Well look at the fact points…four weeks out from a national election…

Blitzer: Yes or no: do you have any evidence? Do you have any evidence Congressman?

Rep. McHenry: Do you have any evidence that says they weren’t involved?

Blitzer: I’m just asking if you’re just throwing out an accusation or if you have any hard evidence.

Rep. McHenry: No, it’s a question Wolf. The question remains, were they involved? And if they were not involved they need to say clearly, and it’s a question, it’s not an accusation.

Blitzer: Well, they are denying that they had anything to do with this.

It’s an old game the Republicans play.  You can play it their way and become a victim, or not.  It seems to me that the good Republicans and Allies and the press and the media and the Liberals and Democrats have been playing the victim, as in “Poor me!”, for much too long. First, they let the Republicans mount an attack on them and their positions or do something unjust like holding up intelligence or a report. Then they act surprised at the “bad” Republicans for doing this. Then they protest, calling what the Republicans do “despicable” or “dirty tricks” or “untrue” or, worse yet, as you do, “unfair”. All of which only makes all parties, the press and the involved organizations look even more like victims. And so you dig your own fate. I also sense that, when you do this and ring your hands, you are hoping the “bad” Republicans will receive their comeuppance from some mysterious force, and that they will self-destruct of their own accord. The Democrats have been out of power for so long they’re afraid to lose any handhold they have, and the press and media have become so used to truckling to the Administration, it is almost a lost battle. It is important to recognize that the Republicans who have lived up to Lord Acton’s maxim: “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Hope the Democrats come into power again; if they remain uncorrupted for a short period of time, it will have balance the veniality of the existing Republican Administration.

As a North Carolinian I am deeply embarassed that we had elected such a simpleton to congressional office. I can assure you that he is a joke here too. But, let’s be fair, so is Wolf Blitzer!

“Why are we viewing Mr. Blitzer’s actions as somehow heroic?  My view is that he simply did what a journalist should do in every case when a guest makes a substantial charge like was done by the Congressman; require the accuser to specify his evidence.  This, almost more than anything else a journalist could do, would go far in cutting through a lot of crop in the media.”

TJ, these days that IS heroic!  Blitzer may well be Swift-boated by Karl Rove. He may lose his job.  He has CHALLENGED the Republicans, who control the media (while spreading the lie that it’s liberal).

Wolf can truly amaze in flashes of good journalism.  The FOXification of American politics (or should I assert the Murdochtrination) is insidious.  This Republican Congressman is bezerk.  His mind is a danger to American democracy.  He is turning a sick sexual predator crisis into a political affair. He need not be returned to Congress this November.  I urge good American citizens of this Congressional district to vote this rascal out on November 7th, 2006. -Kevo

The Republicans have been digging this hole for themselves for a number of years. With little or no oversight it got deeper and deeper. Now they can’t get out. wheither its the Democrats or Republicans or you or me, when there is no other out we try to blame others, or make excuses. The Republicans are notorious for the inability to admit making a mistake so they look to others to blame. I think that it is high time that the oversight committees start doing their job. It seems that the only way this will happen is if the Democrats , at least, control the house. My only regret that its come to this is that for the next two years nothing that really needs to get done, will get done. The investigations will turn up alot of dirt, and it will be entertaining but little will be accomplished.

Republicans have years to come clean on Foley but didn’t. In fact, some people in the same party covered it up. Now they are in blame game.

Oh well, some party and christian value they were talking about.

Hey, good on Wolfie!

It is about time someone took on this “Dems are to blame” crapola.

So what if they ratted out Foley (which they didn’t, according to Brain Ross, who broke the story) Should they have stayed quiet if they knew what Foley was up to and was again running for office,  especially since he was the chairman of the child abuse committee in the House?
