Maher makes the good point that in a less sexually repressed society, Mark Foley could have come out of the closet a long time ago.

Bill Maher joined Wolf Blitzer in the Situation Room today to talk about Foleygate and hits the nail on the head when he points out that Republican/conservative repression and self-righteousness always seems to manifest itself in supreme hypocrisy. He gives the examples of Foley with internet predator legislation, Rush Limbaugh with drug abuse demonization and compulsive gambler Bill Bennett who wrote a book on virtues and morality.

Is Bill Maher out of his mind? Or is he a fan of “chicken” himself? 17 year-olds are savvy? Maybe with each other, but not with a 52 year old man!

I used to respect Bill Maher but he’s EXACTLY the same as Matt Drudge.

What a shithead!

I just don’t get it!

It’s not about Foley being Gay. Neither I, nor most Democrats, nor even apparently most Republicans gives a rat’s ass about that.

It’s about two things:

1) Foley being a CHILD MOLESTER

and

2) The Republican leadership of the House knew it and covered it up and allowed it to continue until it became public, even allowing him to be on a committee to prevent child molestation!

It would be JUST as bad and NO DIFFERENT if Foley preyed on girls instead of boys.

IT’S NOT ABOUT BEING GAY!
