 2,000 Angry Chinese Workers Don’t Care About the Apple TabletPosted on Jan 19, 2010
Apple has a big event planned for the end of the month, when the company is supposed to unveil its rumored tablet and perhaps a new iPhone OS, but the workers who make screens used by Apple are a lot more concerned about getting paid and whether they’ve been made to work with hazardous materials. Some 2,000 Chinese workers staged a five-hour protest over canceled bonus payments. They work for Wintek, a Taiwanese company that makes screens for mobile devices made by Nokia, Apple and others. This is the beginning of the end of the American reliance on Chinese slave labor to build toxic electronic gadgets. The Chinese now realize they’re being screwed; when they protest en masse—as exploited Americans did in the early 20th Century—the WalMart/Best Buy culture will come to an end.

Be careful of confusing people the media call “Chinese”. Those who live in Tai Wan (formerly Formosa) have been capitalists since before WWII. Mainlanders are far more influenced by BeiJing than those on the island. In that sense those on TaiWan differ as much from mainlanders as the South Koreans differ from North Koreans.

why would an apple issue disrupt Gates? i’m sure Steve Jobs is taking some heat about it though.

hello. does this mean the honeymoon is over for Mr. Gates, and he will be returning soon? as things continue heating up, and the Chinese continue to get intoxicated on capitalism- someone may seize Mr. Gates. come home Mr. Bill, come home.
