Couric Stumps Palin With Question About Reading

Palin

Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin about a number of controversial topics during the latest installment of her interview—evolution, abortion, homosexuality—but the VP nominee appeared to have the hardest time when pressed to say what newspapers and magazines she has read: “Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.”

CBS:

Partial Transcript from CBS News:

Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?

Palin: I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

Couric: What, specifically?

Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.

Couric: Can you name a few?

Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn’t a foreign country, where it’s kind of suggested, “Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?” Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

Why not just name the toxic nonsense she doesn’t read? Like the Washington Post & New York Times? And who watches wan & woeful Katie at CBS news? Hard to believe some folks have more to do than sit around reading Kristol and Dowd? Get real.

Last night on MSNBC, I cannot remember which show,Countdown, The Rachael Maddow Show or Harball, John McCain stated and I saw him say these words during an interview: When I am elected Dictator of the United States…..Yes people he said DICTATOR. Now the real truth about The Straight Talk Express is out of the bag. Many of us had already expected this as G.W. had used this mantra for his own leadership goals since before 1996. Now it is out in the open, America the worlds newest Dictatorship.
Guess we finally know why G.W. had all those FEMA concentration camps built that most Americans have never heard of. Creepy.

expat in Germany—All politicians in the two major parties have ties to unsavory people such as investment bankers etc etc, but until our country can make room for a serious, well-financed third party combining the Naders and Kucinichs and Edwards-style populists and McKinneys, we are stuck with what we have. A strong third party is something to work on for the future. Right now, well, look at it this way:

Assume there are two major crises demanding quick leadership and subtle thinking. It is hoped that both President and Vice President have kept up with written material generated by Congressional committees and other sources of information in and out of government, in sufficient depth to form a general opinion of what might be the best range of options in each crisis. Then, the President has to hold these syntheses in mind while 1) picking the brains of advisors drawn from the cabinet, military and intelligence agencies. Then he or she will have to persuade all of these huge egos around the table, whether or not their specific input has been incorporated into the initial strategy, to help rather than hinder the way forward in preventing each crisis’ serious damage to American lives and/or fortunes.

Who should be sitting there keeping all this in mind? A bright, rational, reasoning person like Obama, who thinks before he speaks, backed up by his chosen vice-president Biden who has extensive foreign policy background and has won reelection to the U.S. Senate repeatedly, indicating that his constituency deems him worthy of their trust?

Or shoot-from-the-hip McCain whose patriotism is unquestioned but makes serious errors in judgement such as rushing in like Superman to achieve consensus which he actually, instead, destroyed? Who has chosen as his back-up Governor Palin, whose record in Alaska is mixed and whose interest in reading about issues of the day that affect the bottom 48 states is apparently non-existent?

I was a Hillary supporter but am going to vote for Obama/Biden. I wish Obama had more experience in the Senate before running for President, but his intellectual curiousness and ability to weigh pressing issues with a measure of calm persistence and thoughtfulness is most impressive and desperately needed.

Another argument I hope you will find persuasive: as an American secular Zionist my concern for Israel is nearly as great as my concern for America. It is not in Israel’s interests to have a BLINDLY pro-Israel, religion-on-its-sleeve socially conservative administration exerting influece at a time when
Israelis are contemplating a seemingly risky but vital step toward trusting the Palestinian people, as Olmert asked in his remarks the other day. Someone in the American Presidency who is more or less calling for an attack on Iran in the name of protecting Israel is BAD for Israel, only encouraging Israel’s own hawks, hindering Israeli progress toward achieving a peace in that region, but also playing desperately fast and loose with American intersts and lives—which of course should always be an American President’s first concern, apocalyptic visions and Raptures to the contrary notwithstanding.

Mayor Palin and a short-term Alaska Governoer, would she be able to lead our country in this time of crises?

Please somebody let me know if she has any experience in federal politics or international policies. From what I see, all her words seem more rhetoric than real substances. Her knowledge is very limitted in many areas that any ordinary american could answer, such as she could not even name another US Supreme Court’s verdict. She advocate for change???? What are the changes she was so hype about during her VP nomination? Sorry folks, I adore and remember her pretty face on that night, but i have a hard time to remember what change she specificcally talked about.

We already voted in a president who rode on the religious band-wagon to his presidency and see what has happened to our country now. Please choose somebody that is smart and experienced; somebody that would respect the constitution, the integrity of Justice Department and all the american values that our people have builted and protected. Please don’t let another CIA agent’s identity exposed, or another crooked artoney general put his loyalty to Bush and to his party above the integrity and the welfare of all of us americans.

What scares me is that the GOP has chosen two morons to save this nation.
Intellect should count for something
We have a man at the top of the ticket that was in the bottom of his class intellectually. And the person that would be 1/2 a breath away from the presidency attended 5 colleges before she was able to pull together enough credits to receive her diploma from the University of Idaho. They might have a piece of paper but do they have the intelligence to lead this nation in the hard times ahead? I don’t belive so. But what else is new we elected a moron to lead the United States Of America and look where it brought us. Sarah Palin would be ½ a breath away form having her finger on the nuclear button. Do you trust her with your lives and the lives of your children and grandchildren? I don’t! I’m sorry you can’t take a crash course in intellect. That is why this Christian, white, Republican, woman will be voting for Barack Obama.

It’s the ‘pro-life’ shit that makes me vomit every time. (people are gonna start thinking I have an eating disorder or something). She’s not “pro”-LIFE! She’s ‘pro’ fertilization; the products of which she’s perfectly willing to send off to wars that DESTROY life, en masse!!

Given an election between McCain and an opponent who is anyone other than the devil himself, I will vote for McCain’s opponent.

There is only one way to vote for McCain’s defeat, and that is to vote for Obama.

You are not voting for Obama, you are voting AGAINST MCCAIN.

Let’s face it: Sarah Palin is the quintessential, clueless, wide-eyed, beauty pageant contestant who, when she is asked what would be her fondest wish coos, “world peace.”  If she becomes the vice president, I expect she’ll ask, when she is sworn in, “Where’s my crown?”

Besides the idiotic comments, lack of knowledge and experience, I have a hard time with the blatant sarcasm. “I’ve been hearing about Joe Biden’s speeches since I was in like 2nd grade.”  Not only is that statement stupid considering the age of the Old Grey Stud, as Governor (of my home state) she could at least be professional.

Took her five years to get a degree, unlike Obama she did not take over a college newspaper she became a sports announcer and this from a woman who called what Obama did as only a community orginazer, and who organizes her life Todd?

I read that he is in all the meetings and the reason he is in the meetings someone has got to babysit, why in the office of the governor they did not say, I guess the baby had to be nearby.

But her being governor does not say who was helping her maybe her husband did all the decision making for her I mean having a degree in journalism and not know knowing what paper you read.Kind of sad!

This is something you need to think about if you are planning to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.  Do you think McCain cares about the average American? – Think again! In 26 years John McCain voted against increasing the minimum wage 18 times. In the same 26 years he voted for tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of America 27 times. Why should that matter to you? McCain believes in a trickle down economy. You know if the wealthy get wealthier they will share with you. Obama believes in a trickle up economy, higher salaries for workingmen and women. When they earn more money they are able buy or keep homes, resulting in more employment in building trades. They buy clothes for their children, resulting in more Wal-Mart and GAP jobs. They will purchase new trucks and cars that will keep auto workers employed. Now what is better for this nation a trickle down economy or a trickle up economy?  This republican is voting for Obama because we have tried a trickle down economy for eight years and look where this nation is now! Could it get any worse with Obama/Biden?

The only thing worse than watching Palin is watching her and McCain together. The thought of them running our country for the next four years a recurring nightmare. I hope the polls are right in that Obama is opening up significant leads in the battleground states especially Ohio and Florida. What is wrong with this country that we take pride in being ignorant of the issues? There is a huge disconnect here between the desire to have our children get a quality education and then turn around and celebrate ignorance. Of course if your ignorant and a minority than it isn’t alright. What a strange country we live in.

Forgive me for posting this here, and please feel free to redirect me to where it would be most appropriate. I just received my absentee ballot in the mail, and I am deeply conflicated about voting. On the one hand, I want to vote for Obama to ensure the loss of McCain/Palin. On the other hand, I can’t get past Obama’s carefully crafted campaign and ties to big business. I have voted for Nader in the past, but we all know where that road leads. I am all ears if anyone has words of wisdom. Thanks in advance…

So Sarah Palin is not a member of the church where she sings with the Wasilla Singers or whatever they’re called, or where she receives blessings to protect her from witchcraft, or where she speaks to college grads about God’s plans for Alaska and Iraq?  In an attempt to appeal to a broader public she might risk alienating her very proper conservative, evanglical base.  She seems to be softening on previous staunch beliefs…and denying membership in her church?  She’s becoming very good at deception, downplaying her radical christian dogma and appearing almost middle of the road.  Perhaps there’s hope for the ticket after all.  Her response about reading newspapers and magazines is reminiscent of Bush.  I saw pics of an anti-Palin rally in Alaska, one sign said “Bush in a skirt”.  Is history about to repeat itself??? So soon?

The latest person to pile on to the lovely Mrs. Palin is apparently going to be Gwen Ifill of PBS when she appears as moderator on tomorrow night’s VP debate.  At least that’s what Steve Doocy of Faux Snooze believes; he and his merry band of couch bobbleheads burned away many dozens of brain cells this morning dreaming up the notion that because Gwen Ifill mentioned Obama in the title of her new book (coming out Jan. ‘09) that she has a financial interest in pumping up the Dems’ campaign.  They said Gwen would certainly cut off whatever Mrs. Palin would say and ask questions that would put her in bad light.
I wonder if anyone at Faux has seen the movie “V”  -  some day the walls of propaganda will come tumbling down.

When asked, Palin could only name one Supreme Court Case - Roe vs Wade -

She is the epitome of American Christians…

Here is a favorite quote for them…

“The national government will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests.  It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality.  Today Christians stand at the head of our country.  We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit.  We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press — in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of Liberal excess during the past years.”

I couldn’t read the rest of the article . . . I was too embarrassed for her. Sarah Palin’s vice candidacy is at once hilarious and appalling. The fact that the people “handling” McCain’s candidacy could have considered her speaks volumes about the republican “Forrest Gumpian” mindset. So Sarah claims to have “read all of them”, yet could not even name one. She just got flustered. Didn’t she state a few weeks ago that she didn’t read newspapers? Just like G.W. who didn’t read the newspapers and had only read 2 books in his life and his favorite was a children’s book, when he was in college and had no children of his own. And he married a librarian.

Just what we don’t need in the W.H., another underachiever who does not read, lies and believes that they are on a mission from God and fulfilling end time prophecy.
