Let’s review, shall we? In this clip, shot for Michael Moore’s on-the-money documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” Chris Hedges lays it all out for anyone still mystified, as it were, about the devastating human costs of unfettered capitalism. Class is in session.

For 30 years, Mumia Abu-Jamal’s case has loomed large in debates about the death penalty in America. This week, his story took a major turn with the news that the prosecution in his murder case would no longer push for his execution. “Democracy Now!” ran two stories on the development Thursday, including a clip of South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu requesting his release.

One of the key concepts that the Occupy Wall Street movement has brought to the fore by drawing attention to economic inequality in the U.S. is the notion that the “free market” doesn’t serve the needs of all citizens equally.

Zimbabwe’s own Robert Mugabe is the unlikely star of this startlingly funny little number that its sponsoring chicken restaurant chain, Nando’s South Africa, calls “Last dictator standing.” This did not please the real-life version of the ad’s fun-loving dictator.

California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton has a certain way of talking that is familiar and even entertaining to those who know him, but “The Daily Show” seemed genuinely shocked to discover a politician who doesn’t give a shit about our Victorian sensibilities.
