‘Colbert Report’: Sanders v. Citizens United

The thrilling showdown that was the Iowa caucus race wasn’t the only hot political action that went down on Tuesday. It’d be a shame if those eight precious Romney-friendly votes overshadowed this important appearance of Sen. Bernie Sanders on that evening’s edition of “The Colbert Report.”

‘Democracy Now!’: About That Whole Iowa Caucus Thing

It’s Iowa Caucus Day, everyone—can you feel the excitement? Now, you’ve probably heard a lot of white noise coming from certain other outlets that shall remain nameless about the GOP’s big campaign 2012 kickoff extravaganza, so here’s some welcome commentary to cut through all that from some smart people who do have a clue.

Zuccotti at Midnight on the Eve

Occupiers rang in the New Year on Saturday night with a game of tug-of-war with the NYPD at Zuccotti Park. Dawn Sunday saw the barriers replaced and the park closed to the public.

‘Left, Right & Center’: Third Party Politics

Does America need a third political party? The backlash against Obama on the left and the tepid support for Romney (the “anyone but Romney” vote has gone from Bachmann to Perry to Cain to Gingrich) would seem to make this a fine time for an independent party to emerge.

‘Left, Right & Center’: Extreme Makeover: U.S. Economy Edition

Do Americans really want a tectonic shift in our economic system? Or are we happier “muddling through”? And most important, what would Jesus do in this seemingly relentless recession?
