Eastwood on Detroit: ‘Motor City Is Fighting Again’
Posted on Feb 6, 2012
Those who caught the Super Bowl broadcast Sunday might have heard Clint Eastwood’s gravelly growl emanating from their sets during one of the big game’s coveted ad breaks.
Tossing off tough-guy lines like “This country can’t be knocked out in one punch” and “if we can’t find a way then we’ll make one,” Eastwood plugged the American auto industry and saluted its resurgence with his declaration that “Motor City is fighting again.” (Watch the ad following the excerpt below.)
But as the Huffington Post noted Monday, Clint wasn’t a fan of the bailout that brought Detroit back from the brink a couple of years ago. —KA
The Huffington Post:
“I’m a big hawk on cutting the deficit,” Eastwood told the Los Angeles Times in November. “I was against the stimulus thing too. We shouldn’t be bailing out the banks and car companies. If a CEO can’t figure out how to make his company profitable, then he shouldn’t be the CEO.”
