De Niro to Morph Into Madoff

The spectacular flameout of Bernard Madoff after the big reveal of his fraudulent financial empire played out like Shakespeare for the 21st century, and master actor Robert De Niro was clearly paying attention.

Following the lead of other movie stars who’ve downsized from the big screen to television, De Niro is getting ready to set his jaw and take on Madoff’s stony, guilty gaze for an HBO movie about the busted Ponzi schemer that he’ll star in and produce. We can kind of see the resemblance, actually.  —KA

Laurie Sandell’s book, “Truth and Consequences: Life Inside the Madoff Family,” will be used as source material, The Hollywood Reporter says.

Diane Henrique’s best seller, “The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust,” will also be used.
