Dress the White House in purple and gold, the president is backing Los Angeles in the NBA finals. It’s probably because of his uncommonly good taste and basketball IQ, but it could also have something to do with the 39 percentage points by which he won Los Angeles in the presidential election.
Obama also won Florida’s Orange County, home of the Orlando Magic, in the 2008 election (by a meager 19 points).
Obama took the Lakers in last year’s finals, which they lost, but he correctly picked this year’s March madness winner.
CNN:
“Lakers in six, I think,” the president said when asked by a reporter for Bloomberg News who he thought would prevail in the NBA finals — beginning Thursday and pitting the Los Angeles Lakers against the Orlando Magic.
Fans of both teams can take heart. The president correctly predicted the NCAA Basketball champion in March (The University of North Carolina), but falsely predicted the Lakers would win the NBA finals last year, also in six games. (Instead, it was the Boston Celtics who won in six.)
