According to his IMDb filmography, this is the 30th year in a row that the filmmaker has directed at least one feature film, starting with 1982’s “A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy.” He was only slightly less prolific in the 16 years prior.

Any Woody Allen fan will freely admit that not all of his movies are created equal. It’s hard to swallow “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion” and “Manhattan” in the same gulp. But he’s had a string of critically acclaimed films recently, among them “Midnight in Paris,” “Match Point” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

Allen’s latest film, “To Rome With Love,” comes out in the United States on June 22. Richard Schickel will soon have a review for Truthdig.

The comedian, actor, writer and director is already in preproduction on his next feature. He turns 77 in December.
