Tracy Morgan performs at Cornell University in 2008.

At least he’s being thorough. Shamed “30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan, who sparked anger with a homophobic rant at a standup gig in Nashville, Tenn., on June 3, returned Tuesday to the scene of his comedic crime to say he’s sorry. Seriously.

This stopover was one of several similar image-rehabilitating and apologizing appearances Morgan has made since a Facebook post made by an audience member at that fateful show made headlines earlier this month.  —KA

Access Hollywood:

I don’t have a hateful bone in my body. I don’t believe that people should be bullied or just made to feel bad about who they are. I totally feel that in my heart. I really don’t care who you love, same-sex or not, as long as [you] have the ability to love. That’s the important thing here. So, now at this point in my life is an opportunity to make a difference. I don’t really see gay or straight, I just see human beings now,” the “30 Rock” star continued.

well he didn’t just say “faggot.” he went on a mean-spirited tirade about how gay
people choose their lifestyle, how no one could be born gay, kids just learn about
it from the media, and if his son was gay he better talk like a man and not all
effeminate or he would “pull out a knife and stab that little nigga to death.”

like michael richards, it wasn’t that they simply used a word they weren’t supposed
to, it’s that they are HORRIBLE comics who can’t distinguish between shock value
and just being plain mean-spirited. i think a really talented comic can use
whatever offensive words they want, if they have to right timing and context. but if
you’re not a very talented comic, than you deserve all the flak you’re gonna get.
leave the risque stuff to the professionals. tracy morgan is a child, like most other
of our dumbed-down comedians today.

Quiet as it’s kept, comedy doesn’t have to be offensive!  A good comedian can get guffaws without using slurs or vilifying entire groups of people.  I’m getting fed up with these folks who jump to defend every racist, misogynist and heterosexist outburst on Freedom of Speech grounds.  They are the real idiots and jerks, and they come in all colors.  If free speech isn’t used responsibly, the day will come when it’s no longer free.

who cares what a comedian says?  laugh if you want.  do not laugh if you do not
think it is funny.  the whole situation is weird and sounds like promotion of some
sort

All of these silly punitive attacks on people who say things which are offensive, while ignoring people who do things that are harmful, is just meaningless posturing by the ruling classes and interests who use their power to protect their own group without really caring about any of the underlying issues.

All comedians make inappropriate comments.  It’s part of modern comedy to find the edge, figure out how far they can go.  Many entertainers do the same thing, to get attention.  They’re probably all mentally ill, narcissists with no empathy for anyone but themselves.  Few entertainers are role models for anything except a useless and often destructive life.  So why do we pretend otherwise?

Michael Richards said the n word.  Bad word.  Nobody should ever use it.  But for heaven’s sake, he is a comedian, he was on stage, he was out of line, he apologized, was it really appropriate to destroy him?  He didn’t bomb a nation or kill a million people after all.  He used a bad word.

Now this guy uses the f word about gays.  He apologized, he was out of line.  Again, a comedian, rants, inappropriate.  Is it truly necessary for him to make a world tour to apologize?

Megan Fox said he director on some movie had acted “like Hitler,” and Steven Spielberg, apparently part of some weird group that believes nobody can ever describe someone as being “like hitler,” got her fired.  Honestly Steven Spielberg makes good kids’ movies but as soon as he and Tom Hanks positioned themselves as self-proclaimed spokespersons for World War II and the Holocaust they showed what otherwise ridiculous pompous asses they are. I just saw Tom Hawks publicly reprimand the comic host of some awards show because Hanks didn’t like the humor.  So what?  These people think they are important, instead of just playing important characters in the movies.

Mel Gibson, another good example.  He made some comment about Jews starting all the wars, and Hollywood united to condemn him for all eternity.  Why?  He didn’t kill anyone, drop bombs on people.  He didn’t drop white phosphorous on anyone, unlike Israel did to the people in the Gaza.  He said words.  You don’t like his words?  Don’t go to his movies.  But when “Hollywood” (meaning major corporate billionaires who unfortunately run the whole media system) decides to destroy a person’s career because of a comment he made when he was drunk, it makes me sick to my stomach.  These people are bullies and cowards.

Now we have major sports involved, assessing enormous fines against players who use the f word (homosexual).

Here’s my question:  how many times have all these moralists themselve used the c and b words, or their friends do, or co-workers do, and what was the response?  Other than laughing and chiming in, I mean?

These people are a bunch of f-ing moralistic bullying idiots and jerks, mostly white men who use their power to punish people they otherwise don’t like.  Give me an f-ing break.
