The Kiss the Oscars Missed

Actors Josh Brolin, left, and Javier Bardem kiss during the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday in Hollywood.

You’d think the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would be cool with Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin’s stolen Oscar kiss, as it involved two demonstrably straight men locking lips for the sake of filmed entertainment, but audiences at home were treated to a cutaway to Bardem’s wife, Penelope Cruz—who just gave birth to their first child—instead. Oscar producers are claiming the omission was unintentional, since the kiss was impromptu.  —KA

The Hollywood Reporter:

It [the dance and the kiss] was unscripted, and the plan in the truck was always to cut to Penelope in the audience applauding Josh’s and Javier’s introduction,” Cohen explained in a statement to AfterElton.com, which had originally questioned why the moment didn’t make it to the broadcast, noting that the 2006 Oscar telecast included a Brokeback Mountain spoof that starred Jon Stewart and George Clooney in bed. (Not to mention that Bardem is from Spain, where kissing is a traditional greeting among close friends.)

BLING-BLING

Bardem who?

One day, Hollywood will break off the continent at the San Andrea fault, float out into the Pacific and drop to the seabed.

It will be missed for about a day, then people will get on with their lives wondrously amazed that they can do so without all the bling-bling.

Doesn’t play in homophobic America. The culture is so screwed up it can’t distinguish between an overt display of affection - and sex.
How often do straight men even hug for fear they might…uh. like it?
