Actors Josh Brolin, left, and Javier Bardem kiss during the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday in Hollywood.

You’d think the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would be cool with Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin’s stolen Oscar kiss, as it involved two demonstrably straight men locking lips for the sake of filmed entertainment, but audiences at home were treated to a cutaway to Bardem’s wife, Penelope Cruz—who just gave birth to their first child—instead. Doesn’t play in homophobic America. The culture is so screwed up it can’t distinguish between an overt display of affection - and sex.
How often do straight men even hug for fear they might…uh. like it?
