Hot on the trail: Genetic researchers think they’ve found the link to our earliest best friends.

A research team out of UCLA thinks it may have traced the pedigree of domesticated dogs back to their earliest origins, and the paw prints apparently lead to the general vicinity of the Middle East, instead of the East Asian region they’d previously targeted.  —KA

“Science Fair” in USA Today:

In the Nature journal study led by UCLA’s Bridgett vonHoldt, researchers looked at gene segments from 912 dogs, from 85 breeds, and samples of 225 grey wolves, dog’s close cousins who they evolved from in prehistory, from 11 regions. The study was released in electronic format ahead of its print publication.

Earlier studies by the same team had found the most diversity in dog genes among East Asian breeds, leading the researchers to suspect the region was the original home of the domesticated dog. However, the new analysis of more samples from the complete dog genome says, “specific populations of Middle and Near Eastern grey wolves found to be most similar to domestic dogs.”

After I found out that my dog originated from Arabara and at the same time discovering thanks to Sinbad, that I am a fastidious hateful bigot/Zionist, I decided to make and fire some homemade cookies at my barka wearing female dog just to show her how much I love her!

An ersatz Zionist am I? (one word ends in z and the next one begins
with z).  Only by accusation, since Israel doesn’t really need my help.
Your stories Leefeller are a hoot!  You save the TD forums from sinking
into the tub of smelly vulgarity.  Is speaking from the rectum similar to
praying in an inner sanctum?  LOL!  I feel like I’ve become a Devil’s
Apprentice to the great Leefeller.  I must work on it.  Have we gone to
the dawgs?  5 Yups… or make that 5 Pups!  What do you suppose is
the significance for TD of finding out that Middle and Near Eastern grey
wolves have been found to be most similar to domestic dogs?  Maybe
a new draw for the tourist trade?  They could have international dawg
shows.  It could be a huuuge money maker and the po’people would
not have to care that they don’t get much from the oil business.  Oh,
what?  All the people share in the oil wealth?  Is that right?  What does
an ersatz Zionist know?  Just had to say that once more!  lol Did the
old Sinai nomads have these half breeds?  Were they Jewish nomads or
Arab?  This could be zoologically informative.  A pleasant break from
the hhheavvvy antiZionism on one of the other forums about Israel.
Course no one is breaking arms to post there.  Only breaking arms to
stop!  Thugs live there.  Thugs, now isn’t that a breed of dog?  Oh how
silly, those are Pugs.

Accused, among other things, of not visiting enough TD forums,
thought I’d check this one out.  For all its humor, it is worth one hit
and then a run.  I’m not interested in anyone’s flatulence… or praying.
Hey, do you know that dogs fart?  Oh my gawd!  The two Rottweilers I
have has some bouts now and then.  I had cats once and they never do!
Oh, butt the Rotts, Caesar and Brutus, earn their keep, and they are
great to run with.

The Zionists are getting knocked around a lot on Truthdig these days.
Must be that dawg thing.  Any reason why Zionism slipped into the
discussion here?

In all seriousness (humor occasionally is a healthy thing. I know, I know
it has to be forced on you), but in case you have an abiding interest,
having the two Rotts, I have an interest, in the origin of dogs and
because the size of their skull is close to the wolf, they are part of the
extended study.  Most likely wolves have periodically, meaning at
different times, interbred with domesticated dogs, gene patterns
suggest, meaning various strains are possible rather than one single
strain.  The data does not completely support the TD article.  Not sure
why it was really written since the archaeological jury is still out.  Must
be due to scant story material.  In case you also have an interest, check
out this site:
http://retrieverman.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/another-look-at-the-
goyet-cave-dog/

If you have access to the Journal of Archaeological Science, see Volume
36 (2009) pp. 473-490 (no website is available, must retrieve through
an academic library). If not, here is a little taken from the article just
for your pleasure…Fossil dogs and wolves (canid skulls) have been
found at Palaeolithic sites in Belgium, the Ukraine and Russia (actually
the title of the article).  The Introduction gives an informative overview
of the evolutionary origin of the dog from wolves.  The question is
exactly where did the dog/wolf originate?  The most recent dog
populations, says the research, have a common origin from a single
gene pool in east Asia.  (Is east Asia considered Arabia?)  But genetic
results suggest an older origin of dogs indicated from prehistoric finds
at various sites. There is no consensus at the present time due to the
lack of data.  It is calculated that the domestication of the dog started
either at around 40,000 years ago or at around 15,000 years ago. That
is a broad disparity.  Because more data is currently being analyzed
pinpointing it better is promised to come.

Bye.  You’re welcome.  I just knew you’d love it.

A   NEW   ORDINANCE   ABOUT   FIDO

In this town in which live a few miles out of and at
one time a few years owned real estate in…has passed
a new ordinance..

if you own   a Pit Bull (we have few if any pitbull
                    incidents here,  no more
                    than with any other breed
                    of dog)
You have to take it to the vet…(this includes any mix
                        of breed that might
                      include some pitbull)
and get a GPS chip installed surgically into the animal
you then have to take the dog to the city and have this
chip registared and activated,  all at YOUR cost…
THINK ABOUT THOSE IMPLICATIONS,...This not the only
town around here that has made this ordinance.

Actually Poland and Lithuania have been the “historic” homeland for the ashkenazi jews for a thousand years up until 1948.

Zionism is a movement to deny rightful inhabitants their human rights simply because they are not jews.
It goes further by enacting apartheid laws against minorities no matter how immoral they are simply because they can do it at the barrel of a gun.

This is why I speak out against it.

Not sure if announcing someone as “Oil Tick Sinbad is a pejorative, but I smiled anyway!

Picture someone entering the halloed halls of the lofty self procained Royal Intellectuals Annual Ball, with three taps of the royal staff to hear the loud announcement:

“His Honor,... the Most Self righteous Oil Tick…. Sinbad”. Not quite a flowing title and dost not seem to flow like the spittle flying poetry of hate and bigotry seen from thy foul minded Sinbads lofty written words, especially on another thread!

In stead of dwelling on calling you the ass-hole bigot and racist that you are, I challenge you to read Alan Hart’s “Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews,” in three volumes. I further challenge you to read the international best seller of Shlomo Sand’s “The Invention of the Jewish People.” This last one was written originally in Hebrew, and was just translated into English.”

What are you going to call those two intellectual scholars and hundred other consciousnesses Israelis /Jews: Islamists Assholes? Oil Tick-Sympathizers?

In Arabic we call your types “‘Ifesh ibn Nefesh.” In English your types are called “the scum of the earth!” Now I will put you to task, ugly Zionist, to try to understand what does that mean in colloquial Palestinian Arabic! You must be smiling, Mr. Smiley!

Arabian Sinbad,

I assure you my bigotry comes from a much higher level and is not hateful, and my envy of ancient Arabs as those who are not so ancient is quite different from what one would suppose. It is clear to me, my ignorance of Arabs would only be superseded by my ignorance of many other things.

Actually, as most things, perceived Arab envy may be for me as most Americans, stemming from a regular diet of incoherent observations, watching fair and unbalanced Fox News.  Now it seems to me, making women wear Berkas has absolutely nothing to do with science, coffee( Starbucks is Arabian?) , Algorithms, Algebra, the Dewey decimal system and math, plus horse trading. Though I am disappointed Sinbad did not mention the Camel?

Is it possible Genius has little to do with how people treat others?

Though in my humble opinion, making women wear Burka’s may not take Genius, unless Arabs have somehow talked women into wearing them of their own accord and free will, now that would seem most Genius. For, if I had been able to talk my wife into wearing a burka, she may not have run off with the door to door bible salesman!

Is their a difference between a bigot and a Zionist bigot?  I have seen the word Zionist used on these blogs like lather at a GOP blow up doll convention,  I suspect Zionist may not be a pleasant complement though I am flattered anyway.

As for being a confessed toilet cleaner, I never said I was a toilet cleaner and may I ask; why would a toilet cleaner need to confess?  Looking down on toilet cleaners may be what some bigots enjoy doing, one may guess the lofty intellectual kind of bigots at that!  This makes me kinda glad I am neither lofty nor intellectual. . ...  Let me make it perfectly clear, my station in life is a plumber and not a confessed toilet cleaner.  Difference being, I confess to replacing toilets but not cleaning them, though on occasion have flushed a few.  Possibly the most dim witted bureaucrat would know paying plumbers wages for cleaning toilets would be a wastefully spending of taxpayers money,  sort of like buying hammers for the space shuttles.  Possibly it would be like hiring a Brain Surgeon to perform a high colonic,  instead of hiring someone more appropriate like Pars Hilton, though I have nothing against brain surgeons. .  Let it be known,  I am absolutely not like Joe the unplumber who I suspect would have trouble cleaning a toilet confessed or not.

Please accept my apologies for my perceived offenses of attempting to place into law the idea of female dogs donning burkas, for my ever evolving marketing scheme was actually to promote them as Barkas, which
has already been verified unworthy and would not work, this according to my dogs Veterinarian. It seems dogs do not get excited by the female dogs anatomy,  as it seems male dogs actually only get excited about something to do with the heat of the day?

How fastidious can a hateful bigot/Zionist be?! Your attempt at using a reported scientific revelation to poke fun at Arabs / Muslims is rooted in a sick and sicking mentality and envy that ancient Arabs were able to contribute anything to human civilization!

If you are so ignorant about Arabs and about the fact that they discovered and introduced to the world the coffee that you consume with such excess? What about their science of Algorithm which form the basis of all the science of modern computer?! What about the science of Algebra and Arabic numerals and the decimal system in math? What about the science of horse-breading and the fame of the Arabian thoroughbred, just to mention few?!

If you are a reader at all, then I suggest that you read, “The Genius of Arab Civilization: Source of Renaissance,” edited by John Hays. Or perhaps you can scan the pages of “1001 Inventions: Muslim Heritage in Our World.”

But how can one expects from a confessed toilet cleaner / fixer to relate to such lofty science and intellectualism?!

This explain some things. My male dog gets really excited when the female poodle form down the street, comes by the house, now that I know where dogs originate from, this makes a whole lot of sense.

Yep….. Laurence of Arabia Female Pooch Burkas works for me, maybe they should try it in France first?

Actually this study has an importance to Humans beyond basic curiosity. Dogs suffer from many of the same genetic diseases that we do - including ALS. They also respond to drugs in much the same fashion.

The more we learn about their relationship to Humanity, the more we learn about ourselves. i.e. This study located a gene that causes exceptional gregariousness. [“His team has also used the dog SNP chip to scan for genes that show signatures of selection. One such favored dog gene has a human counterpart that has been implicated in Williams syndrome, where it causes exceptional gregariousness.”]

Just think, this study may explain why most dogs really like people, and at the same time explain the existence of both Used Car Salesmen AND Politicians.

All kidding aside, those of us who only read Popular Science and Faux News Reports of Government Waste, often are victims of mis-information. Health issues alone justify many of these Canine Research Programs.

I own a Breed that can develop Degenerative Mylopathy. This disease causes a degeneration of the nerves that mimics ALS in Humans. It turns out that the gene which causes DM in dogs is also found in people. Dogs and Humans are the only animals known to carry this mutation. The geneticists are now trying to figure out what causes the mutation, and how to turn off the gene.

Experimenting on dogs is much cheaper than experimenting on people… And I am vitally interested in this particular study, and not only because of my dogs. This gene may also be implicated in MS, which is much more common than ALS. I have a Nephew with MS, and I am sure many readers of TD also know affected people.

Who knows, we may all benefit from this rather arcane investigation of the origin of dogs and their relationship to humanity.
