Michelle Yeoh at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

Malaysian-born Michelle Yeoh is one of very few actors to have found onscreen success in her home base of Hong Kong as well as in Hollywood. But since she played the part of Burmese political crusader Aung San Suu Kyi in Luc Besson’s upcoming film “The Lady,” her crossover powers won’t grant her passage into Suu Kyi’s country, where she’s become persona non grata in the eyes of the government.  —KA

BBC News:

Michelle Yeoh, a former Bond girl, tried to enter the country on 22 June but was deported on the same day.

An official told reporters that Michelle Yeoh was now blacklisted and would not be able to enter Burma.

She has visited Burma before - in December, she met the Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.

“She did not have the chance to enter Myanmar (Burma) again. She was deported straight away on the first flight after arriving at Yangon (Rangoon) International Airport,” a Burmese official said.

So?  So what?  Why is this news?  She’s an actress and she wasn’t allowed to visit
Burma, big deal.  Surely there is something more important related to Burma we
could be reading.

Don’t worry, Burma. The USA will be there soon to
save you from your oppressors (Oh wait, yuo don’t
have any oil? Not rich in natural resources?)
==================================
Burma is my neighbor; it’s where most of the natural
gas comes from for Thailand. Chevron is invested big
time in oil exploration and extraction. Then there is
the gem and mineral wealth (finest jade) and, and…

I have to call out the description of Aung San Suu
Kyi as a “Burmese political crusader”.

Ignorance is often difficult to root out; but your
case is the exception. No challenge there…
What’s going on in Burma is complex and made
extremely difficult to understand because news is not
easy to report and even when gotten, it’s hard to get
it out because of a poor and controlled internet.
“The Lady” is revered for all of the right reasons by
the people. The very fact of her detention should be
ample evidence of her importance to the democracy
movement in Burma. The government can’t/doesn’t dare
kill her which speaks volumes for her
effectiveness…

The daughter of General Aung Sung former dictator and instigator of Karen genocide, Suu Kyi only left the Burmese administration she now tries to criticise once her attempt at taking over from within the military administration failed.  Prior to that she had been an active supporter of what she now claims is a dictatorship.
Nowadays Suu Kyi is nothing more than a lackey of english imperialism.  Englanders are once again revelling in imperial fantasy & Suu Kyi is the stalking horse for stealing the richest source of hydrocarbons and minerals in Asia.  This woman is a wanna be traitor to her own people and deserves no sympathy.  Neither do those who seek to whitewash her bloody past as Yeoh has.

What should be equally disturbing is that Luc Besson made Kyi movie. His 1999 “The Messenger: The Story Of Joan Of Arc” is a film most people are probably happy to forget, he needs to do a “La Femme Nikita II” or stick to producing his “Transporter” series.
