Matt Damon greets fans outside a Berlin hotel in 2007.

Matt Damon may get a chance to flex his acting chops in a challenging and meaty role—as a Kennedy, no less—if he ends up liking the screenplay for an upcoming biopic about the late Robert F. Kennedy, according to Deadline Hollywood’s Nikki Finke.

Deadline Hollywood:

I’ve just heard that a deal closed at New Regency for an RFK film that has Damon attached, with Gary Ross directing and Steven Knight scripting. Damon will wait to see the script before we know whether or not the project will really happen. The film will be based on the Evan Thomas biography His Life, which Landscape Entertainment’s Bob Cooper optioned and will produce with Ross and his Larger Than Life partner Alison Thomas.

D.R. Zing, I’m not with you on your part of the comment of the “rat…“etc. personality if you believe that part, as in the thing you mentioned.  Who knows the truth about famous people’s personalities?  Or, for that matter, any of our personalities as viewed by others.  It’s almost a kaleidescope.  My suggestion, as I mark 7 0 this weekend (midnite between 2/28 and to represent the wish-it-was-here erased Feb. 29th), is write about yourself so you have a headstart on people writing about you.

@NYCartist,

Must admit I am curious, too. The Dark Side of Camelot portrays Robert F. Kennedy as an arrogant rat bastard with enough hubris to think he could bypass official channels and negotiate head to head with Khrushchev.

And he almost got us all killed in doing so.

He’s also shown to be a fanatical protector and enabler of his brother’s corruptions, sexual escapades and physical afflictions, the latter likely being the prime reason JFK’s autopsy was botched—they didn’t want us to know he could barely walk and suffered from Addison’s Disease and drug addiction.

I grew up thinking RFK and JFK were saints.  It took a long time to shake off that media-induced fantasy.

So, again, I’m with you.  Will Damon portray the facts or the fiction? He’s a smart guy, so perhaps both, one for the truth and one for the money.

The Kennedys would no doubt approve.

The little creep would better fit the role of Sirhan B. Sirhan.

Damon was a friend of Howard Zinn. Had been neighbors when Damon was a kid.  Remained friends.  What I am curious about is how Bobby Kennedy will be portrayed.  Within 24 hours of his murder, BK had a media character “makeover”, rehabilitated from mean, nasty guy to hero.  I am skeptical of media. And movies.
