Comedian George Lopez is one of a number of Latino stars condemning Arizona’s new immigration law.

George Lopez, Ricky Martin and Eva Longoria worked their Twitter platforms over the weekend to protest the passage of Arizona’s contested and detested new immigration law. For his part, comic Lopez cracked wise about racial profiling, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Taco Bell, while Martin struck a more somber note. Longoria showed her support by giving both stars’ tweets a boost and adding the input of yet another high-profile person of color: President Obama.  —KA

NBC Bay Area:

“ARIZONA .. George Lopez is coming .. Oops .. I just got pulled over .. Apparently I fit the profile .. Gacho !!” the late night comedian Tweeted on Friday, following up with more Tweets over the weekend.

“The Crackdown in ARIZONA continues .. The New Taco Bell TORTADA has been outlawed .by GOV Jan Brewer .. As a treat to the Colon"s of her people !” he Tweeted. “The changing the name of PATRON to make it more ARIZONA friendly .. Now .. PAT RON.”

George Lopez is an idiot, we need REAL leaders in the Latino community, pretty sad when our prime representative is some hack comedian.

I REALLY THINK THAT TRUTHDIG CAN DO A BETTER JOB OF CHOOSING LATINOS WHO COMMENT ON THE RECENT ISSUES ARISING IN ARIZONA.  IN PARTICULAR, GEORGE LOPEZ, WHO TO MANY LATINOS SUCH IS AN IGNORANT BUFFOON.  OFTEN TIMES, IN ORDER TO SAY SOMETHING INTELLIGENT ABOUT HIS CULTURE HE HAS TO STUDY AND BE INSTRUCTED, LET ALONE TO OFFER AN OPINION ON A COMPLEX POLITICAL ISSUE.  EVEN THEN, ONE HOPES THAT HIS INSTRUCTION IS ACCURATE.  YOUR QUOTE OF HIM INDICATES OTHERWISE.  HE IS A CREATION OF THE MEDIA THAT PATRONIZES THE UNITED STATES AND LATINOS WITH A CLOWN THAT HIS NETWORK, NOT US, CHOOSES TO REPRESENT LATINOS… AND YOU THEN QUOTE HIM? HE IS NO BILL COSBY!!!  I ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER HUNDREDS OF OTHER SOURCES FROM QUALIFIED INTELLIGENT LATINOS WHO WILL BE FAR MORE ACCURATE ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SITUATION AND NOT SOMEONE,  WHO DRAWS COMPARISONS TO TACO BELL AND ITS FAUX MEXICAN MENU.  I ALWAYS THOUGHT TRUTHDIG PRACTICED JUDICIOUS AND PROGRESSIVE JOURNALISM NOT COUCHED INSULTING COMMENTS FROM A MODERN DAY STEREOTYPE OF “JOSE JIMENEZ” OR THE “FRITO BANDIDO”......FIND LATINO INTELLIGENCE…ITS NOT HARD…THEY ARE OUR THERE !!!!!
