Hostage-Taker Killed at Discovery Channel HQPosted on Sep 1, 2010
A man holding three hostages at the Silver Spring, Md., headquarters of the Discovery Channel was shot to death by police Wednesday. The gunman was reported to be James J. Lee, a radical environmentalist who had been found guilty of disorderly conduct after a 2008 incident outside the building. Wednesday’s shooting ended an anxious situation that began about four hours earlier when Lee entered the building. He was carrying at least one firearm, plus devices that could have been explosives, according to authorities. The Wrap has more details about Lee here.

rico, suave,
Thanks for the chuckles
As you already know we can give this thread almost two dozen verifiable incidents of violence, destruction and/or general unlawfulness coming from “peace loving progressives” over the past 18 months. On the other hand there is not a single, verifiable, incident of violence from the tea Party in this same time period.
The most disturbing thing is in how I’m repeatedly told that violence or unlawfulness is “understandable” coming from the, so-called, peace-loving Left. Understandable in that the agenda from the Left is “correct” and, well, “the right way of thinking”.
People like garard, unfortunately, are truly dangerous. He perpetuates the hatred of others and promotes violence and divisiveness. All while deriding the mean words from “tea baggers”.

Hey GRYM:
Haven’t you unchained my niece from that radiator yet? I need her home- she’s about three thousand rounds behind on my 357 Magnum reloads! Besides, her wedding’s next week. And I want her pregnant before she starts tenth grade, damnit.
PS- I heard that some lefties are planning to bomb some banks and blow up Wall Street! They have ZERO originality!

Right here, staring you in the face, an entire essay on why the knowledge and practice of nonviolent resistance is a crucial missing element as one possible answer to today’s chaotic needs:

In other words: Eggs and shoes used because of lack of knowledge about and faith in completely (not partial) non-violent protest—leading to:
Report thisSarcastic defensive comparison with Tea Baggers alleged by some left-wingers as promotors of violence when, in reality, they are non-violent (even though a good number of them tote firearms instead of eggs and shoes) at the drop of a hat).
Confusion worse confounded! That’s where we’re at in these discussions, folks. Get a clue!

Big B: Problem is, they think it worked! “It” being America First, ineffective U.N., business-backed government, jails, prejudice against non-whites, fear of change—roughly speaking, (and I do mean roughly). Those are some of the reasons that prevent cooperation with any change—let alone change of mind!
Report thisThe fact that these are all backward-looking issues is an additional factor. People who are against change in a changing world never seem to understand themselves or others. But they are very good at taking stands and persisting in confrontation. Persistence tends to run into perseveration with them. Makes you wonder.

to Rico and GRYM, and diehard cons like them..
Pay attention. Tea party (radical republicans) rallys do not have one random lunatic shouting racial epithets. They have MANY people with racist and divisive signs and views to match.
However, I think the left could learn a lesson from these wackos. The oldest of consumer axioms still holds true, the squeeky wheel gets the most grease. while I am still a follower of non-violent protest, I can’t help but wonder, what would happen if left wing radicals adopted the tactics of the far right, and burned down banks, or bombed wall street? (of course if you are a right wing fanatic, hording guns and canned goods, keeping 14 year old girls chained to radiators and talking about overthrowing the government, your a patriot. If you are a left radical, you are a communist. thank god for the MSM)
It is still not too late for conservatives to put down the Reagan manifesto, step away, open a window and get some fresh air. Then realize that IT DIDN"T WORK.

I agree, we just have to get through this coming collapse of our economic
system without going crazy
“This is one sport progressives are good at- bashing the whole Tea Party for its
inclusion of a few loonies.”
I agree - even if the Tea Party message is abstract and manipulated by the
super wealthy via conflating religion and patriotism into self-interested
economic aims of turning the country back into 19 century capitalism as they
berate environmental scientists like pre-copernican priests did physicists.
Capitalist ideologues are the new Catholic priests of the middle ages.

What’s to be embarrassed about. Insane people, in and insane world, do insane
things daily. I expect much more people losing it in the coming days. Of
course, it will be sport to link crazy people to a specific belief system in order
to discredit it.
Concerns about the dire nature of our physical systems are valid. For we do
live on a finite sphere and that alone we collectively hate to admit. We now, for
the first time in history, have the scientific ability to extrapolate out potential
life threatening scenarios and their subsequent effects. Some more certain than
others. Interestingly, the logic of our social-economic system exponentially
increases the speed of it’s own demise.
Seeing this and *feeling* this is enough to drive one mad. Conversely, the
Report thissystem that allows the relentless drive to it’s own destruction is equally insane.
All suicide missions are.

rico, suave,
According to police and NBC there was an NBC producer on the phone with this man. According to the police the man stated that he had seen Al Gore’s “inconvenient Truth” and, that the film was, in part, what motivated him.
GOOD LORD what would be written and talked about today if the man had quoted something from Glenn Beck or the Tea party protesters? It would be undeniable, proof-positive, unequivocal evidence of the inherent violence and fear-mongering from little old white ladies hanging onto guns and religion.

Undoubtedly a false flag. This had rightwing wacko tea party written all over it.
gerard:
But when there was a RUMOR that some yahoo at a tea party rally shouted the “N” word at a congressman, you had absolutely no trouble, and hesitated not at all, in labeling the entire Tea Party movement a bunch of racists. Now THAT sounds fishy.
diman:
Rumor had it he hated humanity. Look at it this way- he took one for the team. No waste at all.
