The inspiration: Then-President-elect Barack Obama walks off the stage after speaking at his election night party at Chicago’s Grant Park on Nov. 4, 2008.

It’s been nearly a year since Barack Obama took office, and, although opinions vary on this subject, the honeymoon may be over for some of the president’s supporters. However, the tuneful theater types who are staging an Obama-themed musical in Germany are apparently still feeling the love.  —KA

AP via Yahoo! News:

A musical about Barack Obama’s “Yes we can” election campaign premieres in Germany this weekend, including love songs by the president to his wife Michelle and duets with Hillary Clinton.

Even John McCain and Sarah Palin are given stage time, with actors portraying the losing Republican candidates and belting out songs on their behalf.

In all, 30 singers, actors and dancers are to perform in the musical “Hope — the Obama Musical Story” when it opens at the Jahrhunderthalle concert hall in Frankfurt in a bilingual mix of English and German. The audience may recognize that many songs quote from the politicians’ stump speeches during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign.

Can we all get together in silent prayer for a few moments of silence come Whitsuntide, or the next Friday the 13th, or Ground Hog Day and ask that this piece of schlock never—no, never—be brought to an American stage?  Argh!

I would only hope this theater piece is dripping in irony.

Still feeling the love? Hrrrright. Does the musical
have any unmanned drones, or does it just focus on our
un-manned drone-in-chief?

Couldn’t agree with you more, Commune115.

During Dubya’s 8-year reign, I had to turn off the sound and picture whenever he “spoke”.

Ever since BO’s underwhelming inauguration speech last Jan. 20, I have had to turn off the sound and picture whenever he opens his lying trap.

Democraps, Repugs, they’re one and the same—and their whoppers make me ill.

What, no dancing number with actors playing the Honduran death squads Obama supports in Central America? Or how’s about an aria sung by a burned Afghan boy? Maybe a huge chorus can represent the besieged people in Gaza.

The Germans who staged this are a joke. Period.
