Ricky Martin, “Anderson Cooper 360,” “True Blood,” Oprah’s O magazine, Essence.com, comic book writer Peter David, “30 Rock,” Frank Rich, The Denver Post and Russell Simmons are among the winners of this year’s Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Awards. More winners will be announced in the coming months.

The full list of honorees can be found here.

Below, Martin says “I just wanna be free” and urges GLAAD to “spread the love” to Latin America. Simmons and Al Sharpton talk about the importance of taking action outside one’s comfort zone, when it’s inconvenient, and their challenge to hip-hop and religious leaders to embrace civil rights for all.

BBC:

The awards recognise fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives in the media.

[...] Winners were revealed in 25 of this year’s 32 media categories. The remaining awards will be presented at ceremonies to be held in Los Angeles and San Francisco in April and May, respectively.

Culheath, thanks but I tried watching a bunch of times but couldn’t do it.If its two women, then I’ll make popcorn, but two guys just doesn’t cut it.Your study on the two soldiers was enlightning though.Guess I don’t fully understand my own mind yet.

What is a hetero-guy supposed to do to overcome this affliction?

Simple…expose yourself to gay themed movies or serials with male/male kissing. The chunk hurling reaction dissipates really quickly.

There was an interesting experiment done a few years ago where hetero men were shown two posters, one showing an American and a Russian soldier engaged in anal intercourse and the other other showing the soldiers kissing. When asked to rate the two posters in terms of disgust, the overwhelming response by was the kissing scene. Go figure.

I am all for Gay&Lesbian; rights and the ability to get married and live happily ever after.Sure, your entitled to the same things as straights and power to you….However;when I watched those two guys kissing on the T.V. show Glee,I almost hurled chunks all over the screen.
Is there something wrong with me?Do I need a shrink???...I think I am very opened minded, tolerant and accepting, but when I see two guys necking, then its RAlphhhhhhhh. What is a hetero-guy supposed to do to overcome this affliction?
