Finding Farce in TerrorismPosted on Dec 3, 2009
A British comedy that follows a group of bumbling terrorists trying to pull off an atrocity has won approval from the taste-makers at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie was reportedly inspired by real-life tales of farce in terrorist cells, which, in the words of the filmmaker’s office, “have the same group dynamics as stag parties.” “Four Lions” had been rejected by the BBC and Channel 4. The festival, which will screen the movie, runs Jan. 21-31. More on “Four Lions” here, here and here. —PZS

What a relief that this all-too-serious subject, over-hyped and over-extended, can be cut down to human size by farce! What a tragedy if it is banned!
Report thisArt can often do what life cannot, and this could be one example—if, that is, there are enough people left in the world who can understand farce.
I can already think of a follow-up: Preparations for a counter-attack by a bunch of superannuated Crusaders holed up in a cave just outside of Colorado Springs.
