Discovery Plans Documentary About Mount Everest Avalanche

But is it too soon? The Discovery network is working on a documentary about the avalanche on Mount Everest on Friday in which 13 Sherpas were killed and three more are missing and presumed dead.

According to The Associated Press, the network’s plan represents both a necessary change in programming and a deliberate response to the tragedy:

Several of the Sherpas killed were helping prepare for American Joby Ogwyn’s (JOE-bee OH-gwinn) planned jump from the summit in a wingsuit. Discovery planned to show the stunt on live television on May 11.

The Guardian brought word Tuesday that other Nepalese guides declared an end to the Mount Everest climbing season as a gesture of respect to their lost cohorts. Meanwhile, Discovery is planning to include information about relief efforts for families of the Sherpas killed in the accident in the documentary, which the AP reported is targeted to air within a few weeks.
