Chocolate: Good for the Heart?Posted on Mar 30, 2010
The good news for chocolate aficionados is that a new study out of Germany, featuring a generous sample size of more than 19,000 people, suggests that there may be a link between chocolate consumption and lower blood pressure, not to mention a lowered risk of heart attacks and strokes. The catch is that chocolate lovers have to keep their scarfing habits under fairly strict control in order to enjoy these potential health benefits. —KA

If you decide to try to incorporate chocolate into your battle against high blood pressure, keep in mind that the chocolate must still have the flavonoids in it for it to have any possible cardiovascular benefits. I’ve been experimenting with cocoa for a month or two. I think it does lower blood pressure. I use raw, unsweetened cocoa. It’s the best.
