BP Refused James Cameron’s Cleanup HelpPosted on Jun 3, 2010
Those Hollywood directors, always thinking they can call all the shots. “Avatar” helmer and self-proclaimed “King of the World” James Cameron tried to do his eco-friendly (and global royalty) duty this week by offering to help with the cleanup effort in the Gulf of Mexico, but alas, the beleaguered bigwigs at BP turned him down. —KA

I strongly object to truthdig’s degrading of Cameron’s offer as pure hubris. It was misleading commentary on what was an objective article by Reuters. Hey, if an actor can become president and set up the circumstances that ultimately lead to our letting BP get away with unsafe practices, then maybe a director can be the one to save us from suffering the full consequences of our mistake.

I have to wonder why truthdig chose to deride Cameron in their introduction to the Reuters article, which was respectful. If I hadn’t read the entire article, out of respect for Cameron’s work as a director, I would have been left with the false impression that his offer was just hubris.

I don’t think BP can legally turn down Camerons help.
Its time to bypass BP.

“clean house first CANADIAN CAMERON!”
I’d rather have a dedicated Canadian working on the issue than a corrupt and worthless bunch of stuffed suits at BP. And that’s not to mention Obama, who’s idea of taking charge is flying to the coast for nice speeches while BP gets to say where journalists can and can’t film. Obama talks tough while his National and Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration acts as BP’s public relations department. “Undersea oil plumes? There’s no such thing!”
Yes, so glad Obama and his crew are looking out for us down there. Maybe the Canadians should come in and save us, at least then we’d have a chance.

I think BP wants to share as little information as possibly about this situation, they are already in a very bad situation, and they will have to answer for it in court.
