La loba: Shakira is not a fan of Arizona’s contested new immigration law.

She’s not an American, but she is a Latina, and Colombian pop star and self-professed “She Wolf” Shakira mobilized on Thursday for a visit to Arizona, where she was due to join forces with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon to protest the Grand Canyon State’s oppressive new immigration law. Following the time-honored guidelines of celebrity advocacy, Shakira previewed her Arizona trip with an on-air discussion on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show.  —KA

E! Online:

“As a Latina, I’m very concerned how this law can impact working Hispanic families,” the popster told Ryan Seacrest on his morning radio show.

“I think that being detained in the street just because of the color of your skin is just wrong, and it’s a violation of human and civil rights.”

The Colombian-born Grammy winner will hold a press conference with Phoenix mayor Phil Gordon followed by a sit-down with immigrant families and students to discuss the impact of the law, which enables local law enforcement to demand proof of citizenship.

Great idea MUNDT, I’ll take that trade of Shakira for Lindsay Lohan anytime. That is what you were saying wasn’t it? Or were you just showing your dislike for beautiful women? There is more than eye appeal to Shakira, or haven’t you really paid attention?

Re: Basoflakes

Adding to the insanity was that AZ fought MLK day (McCain voted against it) until the NFL told them straight out that the Super Bowl would never come to the state until they began observing the holiday. AZ called their bluff and in 1990 the NFL moved the game to another city. Sure enough the same proposition to observe MLK day passed soon after and the game came there in 1996.

It’s not that I care about football, but more so that I lived in AZ at the time and found this to be utterly ridiculous. Needless to say, not living there now.

Shakira is from Colombia, which is in the Americas, specifically South America, therefore, she is an American.

Yeah, and Columbia has such a wonderful history of human rights & equality for all. Now Lindsay Lohan should go down to Columbia & lecture on etiquette & morality.

Anyone who compares this law to Nazism immorally and underhandedly hijacks and trivializes the Holocaust. It demonstrates historical ignorance and lazy thought for disguting propaganda purposes.
Illegal immigrants should be immediatley expelled from US soil by changing the law like Arizona will do. Mexicans are slowly but illegally taking over the land they lost in 1848 by being DEFEATED in a war.
Democrats are on the right track to stop this invasion. The bleeding hearts are playing on the chopping block of the bloodthirsty Aztec drug cartels and their partners.

I’ll bet all these Shakira haters were the same ones who organized mass burnings of the Dixie Chicks CDs a few years ago for DARING to point out the obvious: That President Bush was dangerous and an embarrassment.

Arizona is imposing a brand-new version of Jim Crow laws.  Just wait: Southern state after Southern state will start implementing similar laws.  Is “Separate but Equal” far behind?

If you would take the time to read the law Arizona passed you will find that it merely
enforces the laws that the U.S. Has already enacted. It does not allow police to walk
up to anyone because of the color of their skin and “ask for their papers”.  There must
be other lawful contact first, and other reasons to be suspect of the persons residential
status. No one in Arizona is against immigration. Just against law violators.
Your at a grocery store.  You’ve been patiently waiting in line for five minutes.  Then
some lady with a full cart cuts right in in front of you.  Do you mean to tell me that you
don’t have the balls to stand up for yourself and tell that jerk to go to the back of the
line?  I do.

Basoflakes, April 30 at 2:50 pm # wrote “Note that not only the Mayor of Phoenix, but the Sheriff of the country where Tuscan is located, will not support or enforce this law.”  The city is Tucson, Tuscan is in Italy.  And if any half wit would actually read the bill they would not get there pants in a wad.  It will be enforced just as any other law is enforced. Probable cause. And if it isn’t, you can sue.  Constitutional scholars have looked at the language and found it to not violate the constitution nor trample on Federal law.  Application of the law will determine the effectivity and the lawfulness of the intent.  Grow up and stop over reacting.  That is for children.

Shakira, thank you for helping us fight this unconstitutional, reactionary, mean-spirited and hate-inspired new law.

All of the people making negative comments about you are jealous of your beauty and success.

God bless you!

And who are all of you “legal” americans to say who is deserving of being here or not. your ancestors long ago came to this land that was already inhabited by the native americans and practically stripped it away from them, they took what was not theirs. they brought disease and death to the natural born citizens of this land. and those who survived they placed in miserable reservation camps thinking they were doing them a favor. your ancestors were some of the first people who delved in human trafficking. they brought people from africa against their will to use them as slaves. when these “slaves” tried to raise up against them your people did the same thing you’re doing now.

How ignorant are you?:“She is not an American but she is a Latina.” She is an American, she was born in America, she was born in Colombia. Last I looked, Colombia was a country in the American continent. Perhaps you meant to say that she is not a citizen of the USA. You, sir, have internalized imperialist values. When was the last time, for instance, that at the Olympics or World Cup or Pan American games the USA wore uniforms with “America” as their only designation? Huh,Duh? Do the French wear “Europe” on their uniforms?

It doesn’t take much to realize the people who jump from blog to blog just to incite their stupidity. They always seem to self-proclaim they will never support Truthdig or whoever without being part to the majority of talk that actually is presented on the site. Of course illegal aliens are wrong, but profiling people that are legal Americans is our complaint and laws like AZ’s do just that. Evidently you are in your protected little worlds without thinking of your fellow countrymen and women. People like Shakira could just stay out of it, but they choose to participate to correct what people like you jumpers tend not to see or choose not to do. There is more to this world than just your space. I believe she is a better American and certainly a better humanitarian than yourself. Look at it as if the way you look and lived your life was what people were complaining about simply because others who look and walk like you choose to break the law. Also, try to read the comments of the people on a website before you judge them. You make yourself look ignorant.

Thank God for Shakira, Linda Rondstadt, and all others who have the star power to put a face against racism in the United States.

Arizona started it with their ban on the federal holiday for Martin Luther King.  The idiots in that state were pushed aside by vocal protests and the holiday was approved.  The same will happen here and now.

I am a liberal Democrat and I support the new law. It is laughable that people would try to support ILLEGAL aliens. No one is saying that we don’t want immigrants who enter the country LEGALLY. This a huge problem for our country and it needs to be controlled immediately. There is a reason the Latino community is the fastest growing community in the US: a good percentage are climbing over fences and working under the table, not paying taxes and sending the money to relatives back home, destroying our economy.

SO

Where are the articles showing ‘real Americans’ talking about how much we hate the illegal alien invasion of foreign nationals into our country??

Truthdig is right in there with the MSM on keeping that buried… I will never support this site again.

Where is the outcry about these illegals being held accountable obeying the LAW?

We are about to lose our culture to these invaders that have full support of our corrupt government and their minion media stooges like ‘Truth’Dig…

Look up: Joe legal vs Jose Illegal and figure it out for yourself and yeah its already too late unless we do like Arizona and stand up for what is left of our Country..

Shakira, you better stick to your stage sex-selling and garbage pop and leave the politics to the politicians, a person who never knew anything about living in poverty now is getting all involved and socially conscious trying to get cheap popularity. Want to do a good deed? Stop producing shitty mindless music, do humanity a favor.

“She’s not an American ...”?  Anyone born in this hemisphere between the Arctic and Tierra del Fuego is an “American”.

Reminds me of when I was a student in Costa Rica long ago and heard a Tico be asked, “How do you like Americans?” and his response was, “Oh we like ourselves just fine.”

After this Visit Arizona will be on each News in Earth. Our state will be known as a Racist Place & unwanted for Visitors. However, this has to happen to avoid violation rights & race profile on the immigrants in our state.

This young lady is very influential in politics. I heard before that she has opened schools in Colombia, had benefit concerts, she’s a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She’s a woman who is not scared of doing the right thing. Has been on every disaster place in need. She’s also supports many other good causes. I’m sure that her voice will hear on each earth spot.
