Adam Lambert Facing ‘How Gay Is Too Gay?’Posted on Nov 17, 2009
What are the responsibilities of an openly gay celebrity to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning community? There are no easy answers, but “American Idol” runner-up and newly minted gay proto-icon Adam Lambert has to grapple with them by virtue of his visibility, and opinions vary widely about how to be out and proud as a public figure. Lambert has hit some publicity snags since coming out after the “AI” finale—although, by then, only the most naive or Internet-illiterate fans were still in the dark. Both of the most contentious recent incidents concerned his sexuality—but not as you might think. Rather, Lambert and his handlers have sparked criticism by purportedly attempting to make him seem a little less gay—or at least that’s the story according to Out magazine Editor-in-Chief Aaron Hicklin in his open letter to Lambert, who appears with four other honorees on this month’s cover as one of the mag’s “Out 100.” —KA

How Gay is too Gay? How White is too White? How Black is too Black? and for that matter, how christian fundamentalist is too christian fundamentalist?
I suppose I’d start off by saying I’m hetero and always have been, its a fact of life. just like, some of my best friends have been gay and always have been, why, because its a fact of life.
I feel very strongly about this. I believe people in this country are so used to being told what to believe and what to think, most sources of information and mainstream media is like this, but the biggest culprit CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM. the church has everybody believing LGBT are sinners, evil or just plain mentally ill. I think i even heard some politician from oklahoma saying the cause of being gay is directly related from watching porn…LOL…AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS SHIT
So yea, sorry guys but we live in a country full of frigging neanderthals. Do what I do, dont get married. I believe a couple can be just as happy being together without being bound by a piece of paper. If we had universal healthcare and other programs the would equal the playing field, i wouldnt think there would be a reason for marriage anyway.
ill keep fighting the good fight though, hopefully someday we can see some change and actually make a better world.
...just my 2 cents.

The recent loss for the right to marry was in Maine. Bigotry by popular vote! Texas, apparently, in its relentless pursuit of bigotry outdid themselves, apparently, and the language essentially outlaws ALL marriage! Heh. A lovely idea.
As an independent queer, I could not honestly care less about heterosexual rites and rituals but must gamely put up with having their peculiar and wretched lifestyle thrown in my face at every turn. Don’t heteros realize that their lifestyle is a psychosocial disorder on an overpopulated planet??
(OK, eventually, I pull my tongue out of my cheek…now, git your mind outta the gutter…)

Look the guy has a great voice. I heard the opera sounding non-pop stuff. I doubt I’d like the pop stuff, it all sucks, AI could equally stand for artificial intelligence. If watching, listening people have to be, too big corporate culture (read he’s, paying to play) suckingly morons, they might as well be dealing with, looking in on, something they might try to avoid or hate otherwise.
He is there seeping in. The more open people there are the better.
With the loss in NH (or was it VT) this out presence is a step in the right direction. The guy Jorge who was just burned and decapitated in PR is a much bigger rights-hate-acceptance issue. Maybe Out should focus on that. Maybe they have, will, I’m not really familiar with them. Try and keep it going the right way and avoid what’s just Idol chatter.

Imagine. A singer is castigated for being “too straight.” Then not “straight” enough. Imagine! “He’s too JEWISH!” (Or Muslim or Agnostic or whatever.)
The media are feeling collective guilt for the outrageous homophobia that still afflicts the United States. It’s sanctioned by law. Imagine: A vote on miscegenation or slavery.
Imagine a world where people DID really just love his singing (or not). And that’s what counted! Not if he’s queer or some non-white/aryan ethnicity…etc. Well, it’s imagining our species evolving into something wiser and more compassionate.

I think it’s unfair to expect Adam Lambert to have done anything different than what he did during AI. His passion is signing, his orientation is gay, but he still needs to eat and have a roof over his head.
Any person gay or straight, fighting for a career puts their work/talent on the interview table not their personal life. You win others approval (and get the job) by showing them how good you are not by exposing your orientation to them! How is that going to help you succeed in a career?
Should he just have throw it all away by choosing to use the show as a platform for his orientation and then struggle for the rest of his life? No.
I think everyone makes choices in their life, gay or not to reveal who they really are to others one step at a time. It’s called human and it’s smart to be guarded about your personal life in most situations.
Audiences fell in love with his talent and personality. The whole gay-thing became a non-issue to his fans as it should be. I think what he did was the right thing and proved that people need to pay attention to what someone is bringing to the table and if they are successful/talented then that is what you focus on and NOT their orientation.

Bullshit fake musician? Really? We’ll see. I don’t get any of this. In the UK we just don’t seem to have any of this uproar. I’m interested in his voice, his music and his performances and also happen to like his look. I don’t care either way about his orientation. The man can’t win, one minute he’s blasted for being too gay, next minute not gay enough. What does that even mean? Surely gay people are all individual and different, like everyone else. I just hope he keeps on being true to himself.

I’m sick of liberal media patting themselves on the back for being so tolerant and
Report thisyet they reinforce the negative stereotype that gay men are emasculate or into
fashion and design (BravoTV is the worst). If this bullshit fake-musician looks and
acts feminine, that doesn’t mean he’s too “gay,” it means he’s a fucking woman.
Also, let me just add that American Idol is at the forefront of total musical
degradation. The absolute abyss of popular music in this idiocracy of ours. As a
gay man and a musician, this article makes me want to vomit.
