Did you see the one about the Bulgarian street artists who used a little color to repurpose a public monument commemorating the Soviet takeover of their country in 1944 into a cartoonish visual joke? That painted prank was washed off within days, but the memorable image figures among 106 that made the lineup of Street Art Utopia’s top images of 2011. It’s up to the artists to keep us all sane. The politicians, the bankers and the preachers—all they know how to do is drive us insane.
