Botox Withstands Effects of Age, Recession

Recession-proof?: Botox use hasn’t plummeted along with the economy.

When the global economy takes a serious plunge (i.e., like right now), one would think that such frivolities as facial fillers and Botox would be the first to go from the regimens of even the most image-conscious among us.

As it turns out, that’s not the case—at least not yet. Apparently, some personal investments are more resilient to stock market declines than others.

The Wall Street Journal:

Despite the dismal economic climate, most women—and men—who undergo appearance-enhancing treatments such as Botox injections are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year to maintain the regimen, aesthetic physicians say. Meanwhile, some older patients who are putting off or forgoing expensive facelifts are instead opting for less-costly injections and laser treatments.

Maralyn Burr of Omaha, Neb., in June lost her job as a district sales manager for bookstore chain Borders Group Inc. Ms. Burr, who is $140,000 in debt from her 22-year-old daughter’s musical education, says she has slashed spending and all but stopped eating out. But she hasn’t given up her Restylane and Botox injections. “It’s like comfort food,” she says.

Anarcissie…

Bulimia is no fun especially for others and besides you’re making fun!  And Bulimia doesn’t help those people already overweight.  I do know they are working on genetically altered tapeworms that will present less of a health hazard.  Can you imagine being able to lose weight without the need to diet——how much is that worth?——the overall benefits are limitless.

Parasites are good, but the more decadent Romans had an even simpler, cheaper method: they learned how to vomit at will.

This post may not be appropriate here, but since Egypt and extreme dieting were mentioned I feel I have a segue.  I predict that in 2009 we will see a medical procedure resurrected from the days of the pharaohs that will help people lose weight no matter how much they eat!  And that procedure is the therapeutic introduction of a suitable tapeworm into the human body.  People unable to lose weight through dieting or exercise or some other complication will now be able to lose weight as if by magic.  Of course the tape worm is competing for nutrients so the individual will have to take much supplements to compensate, but the weight will come off nonetheless.  When the weight loss is complete the tape worm is destroyed and the person will now have a chance to change their eating habits.  If not then another tapeworm can be introduced.

Possibly the ability to control one’s bodily appearance is reassuring in a world otherwise outside of control. Similar motives are thought to be behind body mods like
piercing and tattooing, and extreme dieting.

If so, I say, in the words of the song, “Whatever gets you through the night.”

Tis the season to “look marvelous.” All the rest is denial and that’s not some river in Egypt.

Like they say in LA, “Come for the silicone, stay for the botox.”

Okay, keep up the illusion that you are young and will be young-looking until you are 6 feet under.  Most people that live under this illusion are still bitter, angry and frustrated right up to the end.
