It seems the British have found a way to cope with the global economic crisis. A survey by the Terrence Higgins Trust, a UK AIDS charity, found that sex is the most popular free activity in the empire, beating out window shopping and going to a museum.

BBC:

As the credit crunch bites, Britons may be turning to sex as a cheap way to pass the time, a charity says.

A YouGov survey of 2,000 adults found sex was the most popular free activity, ahead of window shopping and gossiping.

The Scots were most amorous with 43% choosing sex over other pastimes, compared with 35% in South England.

That scene in So I Married an Axe Murderer where Myers, as the very Scottish dad, sings “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” comes to mind.
“We have a piper down!”
All this time, the intellectuals told us the French were the great lovers!

Believe me, I am sure that there are consultants somewhere trying to find ways to require people to pay in order to have sex.  Capitalism, after all, has to commodify *everything* - and nothing must be more galling to the billionaires than the idea that a poor person can get off just as much as they can.

My Scottish mother who was around in the 30s refers to sex as the poor man’s pleasure. Sure that 43% of Scots isn’t low?

What about masturbation? Seems like an even more popular time waster to me.

Sex rears its ugly head again!

(remember folks, good sex can get you through bad economic times better than good economic times can get you through bad sex.)

Well, that certainly makes sense based on past experience. Think of the 70s recession in the US - it was a total sleeze-fest!
